I know I've joked about this before, and it's pretty much accepted it could use
a little tweaking.

But today, Al Marah's Gillette took it to a new level.
153 block/tackle attempts - 26 for the entire rest of the defense.

Num Name Ps Mn G A Pt Sht Tck Blk Rst
 1066 L.Gillette DF 90 0 1 1 0 13/72 12/81 61
  441 W.Godden DF 90 0 0 0 0 1/8 2/13 64
 1351 T.Benfield DF 35 0 0 0 0 0/0 0/0 73
  204 P.Lavine DF 90 0 0 0 0 0/1 0/2 65
 1135 A.Bridgeman DF 55 0 0 0 0 0/0 0/2 75

75 block/tackle attempts for the rest of the entire team!!!

That essentially means on 2 out of every 3 plays on the ball Gilette was the
defender. On a scal of 1 to 10, Gillette's stamina should be about a 45... and
his speed would have to be about a 30 to get around the field like that.

wow.

Out of curiosity, is it always like this, or was the other team forcing it to
the one guy he was defending? I can easily imagine that a team using a 1-FD
formation and that doesn't allow its MFs to shoot could try to run the whole
offense through that FD, giving whoever is covering him an unreal number of
defensive "chances".

well, what i see in that game is that you played your 2 best FDs on a same
90minutes and an average FD on the second one. their defensive strategy pointed
their first defender on your best FD and his sub. the second defender on the
other FD and the 2 others didn't have much to do. i think that you should check
how many times your other FD did shoot (1 time...)
you were playing a man show... so yes, the defense was doing the same thing.

Serge, Andy-

When a midfielder was challenged dribbling the ball up it was Gillette making
the challenge, when a long pass was made to a forward it was Gillette. He
covered both forwards and attacking midfielders.

I don't claim to full understand it, but there were plenty of touches among all
forwards and middies.

there are several games where the result is like this-
Cleveland- Baker didn't play in this game and I had very balanced shooting- yet
it was all Iglesias
I.Donnelly 1 36 1 8 9 25 0 0 0 0.0 DF
E.Iglesias 1 90 4 42 19 50 4 1 0 0.0 DF
S.Friedman 1 90 1 7 2 15 0 0 0 0.0 DF
M.Wysowski 1 90 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0.0 DF
D.Cao 1 54 0 4 2 12 0 0 0 0.0 DF

The Metropolitans..
G.Brewer 1 90 8 46 24 109 0 0 0 0.0 DF
L.Chandor 1 90 0 3 0 5 0 0 0 0.0 DF
K.Lombardi 1 90 0 0 0 13 0 0 0 0.0 DF
G.Weil 1 90 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.0 DF

and quite a few more.

I'm just saying. To play a full 90 minute game as a defender and get 0 - 0 box
score would be very tough.

The only thing I can think of that seems logical to me is I play a lot of 5-3-2
and maybe the non-involved defenders are man up on my defenders who usually
just get ball and immediately make a long pass?

Here's an example..

Today 2 forwards

              Overall Passing Keeping Shooting
Name Tchs Time Frac Comp Frac Comp Frac Bl Wd Sv Gl
R.Baker 0.15 0.10 0.45 0.54 0.21 0.83 0.34 1 5 3 1
G.Lukach 0.14 0.07 0.62 0.75 0.38 0.60 0.00 0 0 0 0
M.Lyles 0.09 0.03 0.29 0.40 0.65 0.45 0.06 0 1 0 0
Lyles came in for Lukach at the 61 minute mark.

However as you can see, touches and possession are relatively equal.

yet the defense is again a 1 man show.
Name GP Mn G A Pt Sht SoG Tck TA Blk BA Fl Bk Ej Avg Ps
Porges 1 90 0 1 1 0 0 7 32 7 49 2 0 0 0.0 DF
Degenaar1 45 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 3 6 0 0 0 0.0 DF
Malkin 1 31 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 3 21 0 0 0 0.0 DF
Winn 1 90 0 0 0 0 0 2 4 6 14 0 0 0 0.0 DF
Prada 1 59 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 8 0 0 0 0.0 DF
Rotherme1 45 0 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 15 0 0 0 0.0 DF
Silva 1 90 0 1 1 0 0 0 5 1 8 0 0 0 0.0 MF

so if both guys had the ball the same amount of times, regardless of who shot..
why is it only 1 guy played defense?

Here are the 4 scenarios he was frequently involved in"

1) Lukach moves ahead to (left, attacking end)
Ball taken by 743 Porges
   *this is who he covered.

2) Baker makes long pass to 312 Lukach at (left wing, attacking end)
Pass intercepted by 743 Porges
   * same as 1

3) Baker makes long pass to 1595 Chrispin at (left wing, attacking end)
Pass intercepted by 743 Porges
   *Chrispin is a LMF*

4) 1595 Chrispin throws in to 499 Decourcy
Ball knocked out of bounds by 743 Porges
   *Decourcy is a RMF*

Ok- so Porges clearly covered Lukach/Lyles the whole game. That was obvious.
However he also managed to cover both my Left and Right Middies when they
brought the ball up and seemed to cover them on passes also.

It appears the top defender is covering 3 guys when I play my
5-3-2.
