People, throwing tons of ideas and a sort of "conditions" list to andy won't
solve the problem. I have been around for years, and i can understand what we
mean, and what andy means. let's consider for a second a different approach.
how about we make ourselfs a list, and put them in order of priority.
afterwards we would be able to take one idea at the time, work it, and make a
proposition to andy (proposition being problem -> many solutions possible).
this way i am sure that andy will take the time to consider an idea at the
time, and we'll be able to progress here.
in this forum, please answer under the following format ONLY:
[YES|NO] [I am|I am not] in favor of this approach
if YES here is a list of my top 3 concerns :
concern1 : change1
concern2 : change2
concern3 : change3
thank you

[YES] [I am] in favor of this approach
if YES here is a list of my top 3 concerns :
concern1 : having leagues merged in one league with premiere and first
divisions
concern2 : restarting the season
concern3 : having names fixed following the names of an european soccer league
(england would be my choice).

1. I am neither for or against this "approach" as the "soccer forum" is in
itself the "approach" to doing the same things you stated.
2. I don't believe contraction will improve things, we already contracted both
leagues when the 1st division was removed.
3. I am against fixed team names. IOFA already FORCED coaches to choose city
names.

matt, you misunderstood my question. do i look like a guy who doesn't know what
contract means? anyways, i thought you said merge leagues, but you meant
divisions, must be my fault.
if you understood well my proposition, i meant merge, and not contract. by
merging, you don't shrink, you add 2 already existing entities. so maybe you
misunderstood me after all. instead of having 2 premieres, we would have a
premiere and a first division in one league. a question of having more
competition and more coachs fighting to survive.
let us not forget. when the divisions were merged, we had 18-19coachs on 40
spots for each league. now we have over 30 for 40 spots in 2 leagues. if we
merge, we would have one full league with more than half of the first division
full. now, in soccer, if you lose 5games, you can forget about the
championship, and most coachs just set their teams on one strategy, and don't
check their teams for weeks. i know we would lose the champion league's style
cups, but, at least, we will have the most active coachs of both leagues in the
same league. this will surely give life to soccer.
about names, i was the first one to be against that, but it seams that lots of
coachs are for that, so i thought that majority wins, and i thought it would be
nice from me to help them make their point.
matt, you didn't give us your opinion on reset a league. can we have that?

If going to merge both EFA and IOFA into one league:
1. Would DEL cup and the league cup be pretty much identical? Maybe the
seeding calculations would be different so you wouldn't have identical
matchups.
2. I guess i would be in favor of a reset
3. If we reset the league, how about a reset of the game records? Unless they
are currently at realistic levels that is. (Both leagues seem to have records
that were set 21 seasons ago, which was probably the end of Andy's run through
many seasons before going live.

well matt, i think that this is a great idea (resetting records). i even think
that coaching records should be reset too, there are full of coachs that don't
even exist anymore. let's see if everyone is OK with that.
for the del cup, it won't exist anymore, it would be replaced by the regular
cup. if we are able to fill the league, we could ask andy to create another one
and start the del cup again. but i really think that having two divisions is
important for teams that won't win the championship (not important for me, i am
going to win all the next seasons :) ) this might also give more importance to
the regular cup which no one cares about for now.
let's have top 3 concerns this way then :
1- merge leagues
2- reset all info
3- try to find an alternative for the del cup issue
let's forget about the team names for now.

was against the fixed names, so nothing was forced on anyone

I am for:
1- merge leagues
2- reset all info
3- Fixed names

Here are my top 3 concerns:
1. I am IN FAVOR of merging the two existing soccer leagues. However, I have
doubts whether doing so would revive GMs interest or attract new coaches to
join. Also Andy will need to decide how to best handle the issue of legacy GMs
who are currently playing free for life. (FYI: I am and continue to be a
paying GM since Day 1).
2. I am AGAINST resetting all coaching or individual player records. It would
be unfair to those who have coached, achieved success and enjoyed the game
throughout the seasons if we simply erase everything. What we should do
instead, is to put those records in a separate archive if Andy decides to unify
the IOFA & EFA and start up a brand-new league.
3. I am INDIFFERENT to fixed team names. In IOFA, we had team names fixed
(major cities in the world) when we reorganized a few seasons ago. Personally,
I think it has little effect to attract or retain new coaches, although some
veteran GMs may have grown accustomed to their team names by now. I would
support fixed team names (to be chosen by current GMs, possibly after real-life
soccer clubs around the world, not just those from Europe) if this is not a
problem since I recalled Andy once mentioned there may be a trademark issue.
Let's keep the discussion going.

i sent an email to all iofa coachs, asking them if they were ok with merging
the leagues. can you please (alan and matt) answer with a yes or no? we'll talk
about records later, but let's start a merge. i already have the answer of 3
iofa coachs, and there are 7 in all.with alan and matt, i would have 5/7 which
is good. i would start the same thing in efa afterwards. you know that with
andy we need 7/7 so take a minute and send me a yes. here is what would be our
top 3 for now then :
1- merge leagues
2- reset leagues
3- archive old records and start new ones. (i am on the top coachs list too,
but we have here lots of coachs that don't exist anymore in the del world,
maybe we should just have them removed. as for the players' records, i think
that they should go, because most of them date from the first seasons that were
simulated coachlessly)

Hi guys,
i have exchanged a few emails with andy, and as of now, he doesn't like the
idea of merging the 2 leagues, so i don't think merging is a solution right
now.
Date: Fri May 6 12:38:09 2005
Sender: Serge Kassabian
i don't intend to do that this way, we could have coachs from iofa join efa,
and then restart, that would do the same effect.
Date: Fri May 6 13:47:19 2005
Sender: Matt Hanson
If we merged, then effectively IOFA and EFA would be no more. Just like in
basketball, IEBA no longer exists, and thus all my coaching stats there are
forever gone.
So, reseting the records (if everyone moved to one of the 2 leagues) would be
no different than merging the leagues, which it appears andy is against.
Hmmm.....i am a "free" soccer coach, if had to move to EFA, would that remain,
or would i be compelled to start paying?
Date: Fri May 6 17:41:43 2005
Sender: Karim Cheaib
Am pretty sure Andy would want you to pay
Date: Fri May 6 20:41:32 2005
Sender: Matt Hanson
Then you would be one less coach.
Date: Sat May 7 20:18:53 2005
Sender: Serge Kassabian
well matt, if 6$ per 2months is too much for you, i'll pay your fees if you are
proactive in the next league :)
i don't think that most coachs are understanding what i mean by merging. andy
will never accept to create a new league for coachs from both leagues, so i am
trying to make coachs from iofa join efa, and this way we would have merged our
own way.
after that, i don't think that resetting a league would be a huge problem for
andy.

Serge, if he is just in the league cos its free, and wont join the next league
cos he has to pay, i dont think you should pay his fees for him,am sure someone
else would be a much better idea!

Well, i joined a long time ago when soccer was offered for free. I get it free
as long as i stay in the league.
Now you want me to leave my league, move to EFA, start paying for it, all so
the 7 active coaches can have a little more "competion"??
You guys get tunnel vision when you try to "improve" things that you don't look
at the big picture.
Karim, its not that "i dont want" to pay for soccer, its that i "dont have to
pay". The number of active coaches is so low that i don't see this as a long
term fix. This isn't going to fill the leagues to capacity any more than
things were before. So, if you want me out of soccer, just say it, i'll leave.
I just think you guys are about to destroy DEL soccer .

actualy i can understand both point of views. here are my questions to you:
1- karim, would you take a free meal if you could?
2- matt, would you rather have a free mcdonals? or a delicious steak for 10$?
i would chose the steak.
anyways, the goal isn't to pay or not to pay. it is del soccer is boring, and i
am trying to give more life. if you really like the atmosphere now matt, you
could download this game and play it on your computer. sincerely wouldn't you
like to know what a league containing (alan lee, karim cheaib, olivier biguet,
brian hurd, larry newdorf, victor hui, paul duree ...) would be like? wouldn't
you like to compete in a league like this one?
think about it.

I have no problems moving to efa if that is what everyone wants to do. I can
start over from scratch but how are you going to handle teams assigning players
ect. I would hate to loose my stars if everyone from efa gets to keep thiers.
Team names, this has been beaten to death and i think everyone will do it just
to make this argument go away.
As for paying if you can't come up with 6 i'm sure Andy can put you on a
welfare program.

Brian, I think that id the decision is taken of moving everybody to EFA, Andy
proposed in the past that he can put all the players on the FA, and we start
from scratch.

Its not that i can't afford $6 every 2 months, its that the sim (in its current
state) isn't worth $6 every 2 months.
So, being it is free now, to me is worth it. Going from FREE to $6 is not
worth it (at least not for DEL soccer).

who isn't. if i paid your seasons matt would you change to efa?
