I remember my past attempts at the hockey sim, and I recall a rule where you
had to use 17 players to make up your lines. . . or something like that. I find
no mention in the help pages about this.
Is there such a rule in (pro) hockey, and if so, what exactly is the rule?

You 'have to' use 15 players minimum (3 lines, 5 players each, use same line
combos for all situations), but you can use up to 18 players total in DEL (both
college and pro).
I think the real-world pro rule is 18 skaters dressed for the game, but I am no
longer certain.

Ok, thanks; 18 it is . . . I am curious, is this listed somewhere in the rules
where I might have missed it?

A quick perusal of the help files says... no. Apparently it isn't listed
anywhere that is obvious. I know that a warning message mentions it when you
submit lines on-screen if there are more than 18 players used.
