Hi,
I am the Dartmouth coach in HEL and have a couple of questions
I cannot understand from the FAQ or the numerous postings
about waiver wire signings.
1- If team A bids 3 million for 1 year for player Y, and team B
bids 2 million per year for 3 years for player Y who will be
win the bid? Is it the highest value bid, or the highest
next year?
2- Is there any significance which FA group a player is in? Or do
all groups (i.e. A, B, C etc) have the same priority for
processing? I am trying to determine if the players I want most
should be in group A or is Group F the exact same?
Thanks

#2- Signing group has no effect.
#1- Will require someone with a better grasp of the financial sim then I, to
answer.

It goes by "total contract value" to a degree.
It's never been 100% defined, however in scenario 1. he would go to team B, for
the 4 million dollar value.
However, there are some limitations. If there is a talented 40 year old, and I
offer him 6 million dollars for 2 season, and you offer him 3.5 for 5 years...
I may get him, partly due to his age I think.

Interesting,
Thanks guys, that explains some of my past missed free agents.
Anything definitive on scenario #1 would be appreciated as tomorrow
is the free agent draft day. Seems to me its the only really
important day of the entire season for the upcoming season.

As far as I know, AJ's correct on #1 and there do appear to be some exceptions
from the total salary rule, generally from older players, even though I can't
say I've studied FA signings in any depth.

AJ gave you the most definitive answer you can get I think. After a quick
search, I found out that Andy told him about exactly that about 4 years ago ;)
