How many of you use Bob's settings for your team?
Last season, I joined HEL and, when the season started, I clicked the
Auto-Coach to see Bob's settings. I used them, with only a few minor tweaks,
the whole season. Result? I made it to the conference finals, which I lost 4
games to 3.
This season, I used my own settings. I *did* have a 25-game win streak early in
the season, but the second half of the season we slumped badly, losing 8 if our
last 10. After losing the first two games of my first round playoff series (at
home), I figured "what do I have to lose?" and used Bob's settings. Result?
First win in 7 games!
Thoughts?

yeah Bob held me to 14 shots, including only 1 shot the entire 2nd period.
I call Bull. One more loss like that I'll turn Bob on myself.
and just let the Bob's play.

I always seem to beat up on the Bob coaches teams fairly easily. Also if you
look at some leagues with lesser coaching numbers, the human coaches who input
their own orders seem to have the playoff spots while the bob coached human
teams and bob coach teams in general are further down the standings.
My thing though is that I am a game by game tweaker. I'll usually tailor my
gameplan depending on the style of the team i'm playing and I usually do this
to great success. I absolutely love feasting on teams with slow defensemen
because I know thats a game I will dominate in. In the HEL playoffs right now
Mathew Newcombe and his Carolina team are giving me fits and I suspected would
happen because his team just matches up well against mine and they gave me hell
all season long too.

Well here is thing I dont get- I assume that Bob sets up his lines to use his
players the best way possible; maybe thats wrong, but I am going on that
assumption.
I have looked at his lines, trying to find the pattern. I dont see any more of
a pattern in his line selection then in mine. And some of his choices seem
counter-intuitive. For instance, penalty killers. Bob seems to use the guys
with HIGH aggressiveness-that seems illogical to me; wouldnt you want the guys
who are more likely to stay in their positions?
And the 4-man lines; wouldnt you want the best skaters out there? Not according
to Bob.
Matt-Im not sure I see how much you can "game-plan" for a particular game?
Considering most of the controls dont seem to do much.

I have a feeling where I see these numbers:
Aggression: 2.7
Trapping: 3.3
Backchecking: 3.0
Long Passes: 2.6
NZ Regroup: 3.5
Dump & Chase: 3.0
OZ Passing: 3.2
Defense Pinch: 2.8
I can't really do much with it. Maybe if it's a 1 or a 4. But with differnet
lines those numbers are meaningless.
Maybe Bob sees more than that?
Also, I don't know why my team seems to match up well with Red, he has the team
and players I want.

HIGH aggressiveness- helps with loose pucks won. That would be maybe the only
reason.

What the hell?
this is riduclious. I'm turning on Bob too.
s
I go from 28 shots a game.
to 11, stinkin 11 the whole game. I've never had that few all season.
I'm so sick of this Bob crap in every sport.

So by going from
this:
Buckland Catamounts apparent options
Pull goalie: unknown
Aggression: 3.7
Trapping: 2.7
Backchecking: 3.0
Long Passes: 3.4
NZ Regroup: 3.4
Dump & Chase: 2.0
OZ Passing: 3.3
Defense Pinch: 3.2
to this:
Buckland Catamounts apparent options
Pull goalie: unknown
Aggression: 2.7
Trapping: 3.2
Backchecking: 3.0
Long Passes: 2.6
NZ Regroup: 3.5
Dump & Chase: 2.9
OZ Passing: 3.2
Defense Pinch: 2.8
I get way less shots and go from 8 goals to Zero. Wow.

All I can think is:
Less aggression=less guys getting caught deep on the offensive zone, so they
are back to disrupt your offense.
More Trap-Less offensive chances for you.
Btw-I did switch a couple things, so its not completely Bobs game. I have too
much pride for that.

thank you, Red..
I don't mind losing to you. Your team is better, you should be the favorite.
That said, I still hate how my teams lose to Bob. (especially in basketball,
but Hockey too)

LOL.... look at Bob Coach my team.
I lost but 4-3 in OT and outshot Red 28-24.
huge improvement.
I'm not sure what Bob did exactly, he turned my aggressiveness down but that
was about it.
However is PP and PK lines are stupid.

I've toyed with this all season and arrived at: low-Aggr, 3s for everything
else. My team is FINALLY playing closer to its potential. The low-Aggr
apparently was necessary to keep my goons out of the penalty box. But you tell
me why low-Aggr helps my team with loose pucks.

Well after Red switched to Bob
he destroyed me for two games...
then I switched to Bob and we played two good ones.
I probably should have done the PP lines and PK lines, and let Bob do the rest.
Oh well, I have a whole new team next year. My 3 year old accidently hit LEAVE
LEAGUE when I left the screen up and when I rejoined all my guys autocut (shame
I can't do that intentionally in EPBL)..... and I don't think I can get them
back.
See ya next year.

what the sim values for what.

I did my own coaching for the first half (HEL RAVENS - we suck).
for the first 35 games my Goals for/against was -71.
Then I gave up and let Bob do the coaching. Over the next 45 games, working
with what the RAVENS got, the goal deficit increased to -84...and if wasn't for
two of those games the deficit would have been -79.
So with my wonderous coaching my goals deficit went to -71 in 35 games, and
under Bob's 47 games the deficit increased by another -13!
Bob did very well. He played the boys more offensivly than I was doing - and
worked my top goaltender to near death.
Wich is to say I've just got to change my ways.

I must be a really bad coach, is all I can figure, if Bob does so much better
with my team then I do :-p

Good series Red. I have to admit with your struggles at the very end of the
season, I wasn't expecting the series to be this challenging, then to be down
3-1 I had to go back to the drawing board.
