Why would some players not have a message about their playing time (happy,
borderline, etc.)?

I have one guy on both SMU and San Diego that don't have a message. Both are
guys that are demanding time, not promised time.

From SMU:

Players demanding playing time:
5373 W.White (TB )
3502 M.McClellan (OG ): happy
3621 T.Hood (SF ): happy
3419 A.Keaveney (DT ): happy
3629 A.Dearing (PN ): happy

I know if a player is out due to injury, it won't count as one of the three
games before a message shows up, but White has played in all four games.

So, what does no message mean? Both are seniors. Does that make a difference
(since they obviously won't transfer)?

Sorry, I should have clarified, but this is in CCEL.

bump - does anyone know what a "no message" means? Is it unhappy, borderline,
no longer cares?

If this is something that could affect coach ratings, shouldn't we know what is
going on?

I am not sure why they are blank if they are playing in all the games. I do
know that if they are demanding PT but not promised it won't hurt your coaching
rating. They will transfer/graduate but since you promised them nothing they
don't cost you anything either.

I'm not absolutely certain, but I think the message is missing if you have not
used enough formations that would include that player's position. I've noticed
this with FBs and ILBs, who are sometimes left on the sidelines depending upon
the formation. It's kind of odd though, since for me those players have ended
up showing as 'borderline' anyway once they do get a message.

Injured games also will cause a blank to be there. The player must play in a
certain number of games he is available to play in before it says happy or not.
But I think the bottom line is those player haven't played enough snaps yet.
Once they hit that "magical" number they will be happy.

or unhappy in the case of Penn State's 2nd RB.

He was blank until after game 4.

Yes, indeed, I am aware that the demanding PT don't hurt the coach rating.
But, the player himself will play worse if not happy, so it is important to
know what is up.

In the specific case of White at SMU, he is the backup TB and through five
games has 84 carries for 514 yards and 11 catches for 78 yards with 3 total
TDs. He's seeing the field enough to average over 100 yards rushing per game
and 2 catches per game. He hasn't missed any games due to injury. So, I'm
still curious what is up. It kind of sounds like Andy may be the only one with
the answer. Maybe he realized he is a C C playing behind a B A player and
isn't so worried about his demands anymore.

My experiences with missing messages are for players who were not injured, so
it was probably formation since I know that I had used formations that would
leave them on the sideline.

in my case my B rated TB wants to start over my A rated TB.

I gave him MOST PT, but my A rated is a 10 ST and he is
4 ST...

so too bad, can't let the inmates run the asylum.

looks like he finally showed up as borderline

which brings me to the next question... will a player that was promised
playing time and is "borderline" transfer at the end of the season if he is
still "borderline" and cause a prestige penalty? is it up in the air?

this question stems me playing a player with 8 7 1 1 in cmel (contact, power,
defense, arm) as a DH full time. I actually even accidentally missed playing
him on the first game of the season. But right now we're only on #5 and he's
already borderline. I'm not sure if I want to continue to take the chance of
keeping him there at borderline or going ahead and putting him on the first
base bag to get him some starts.

It's a long season, but I'd suggest to start the guy as much as possible early
on to keep him happy. You never know if an injury will affect things later
(players neither gain nor lose happiness while injured, but it leaves you with
fewer games in which to make them happy later).

Last season in ECHL, I had a player who didn't get enough time early and I had
to spend the entire season of padding his minutes to get him to 'happy'. Then,
in two playoff games where I gave his line fewer minutes, he slipped back to
'borderline'. He did stay with the team though, but I presume he could have
left and I would have taken the hit for it.
