Alright, with WFL off the ground, it's probably time to start thinking about
new leagues in other DEL sports that are full -- baseball and soccer. As with
WFL, a new league would be initially limited to coaches with 3 years or less in
that pro sport.
Would there be any volunteers for this? We always get a bunch of baseball
signups this time of the year, and I'd love to be able to give them teams...

I am up for it ;)
Oups, I have more than 3 years, douhhhhhhhhh

Seems like a good idea....I'm all for it....even though I would be initially
exempt (over three seasons in baseball)

I would consider being a commissioner of a new baseball league. An autographed
copy of "The Book" could help sway my decision.

I think it's a good idea. I wonder if it would be possible in the new league to
make the help files a little more visible, like perhaps a pop-up link on the
coach's settings page to explain the various settings or such. Perhaps a new
league would be a good place to try something like that if it wouldn't take up
too much time to cut and past it into place.

I'd be willing to help anyway I could as well.

I liked the idea that was set forth in the WFL where there was a veteran
commish who went easy on the wire and his emphasis was helping the new guys
figure out the sim.

Well, it looks like we've got a need for three new leagues -- football,
baseball, and soccer. If you're a veteran coach who'd like to help some
newbies get started (newbie = 3 years or less of pro experience in that sport),
let me know. The one catch is that veterans wouldn't be able to play in the
league.

I'd be willing to help any of these leagues under any capasity.
I think the newby leagues are a great idea.

Something to keep in mind is, most of the people on the signup lists won't
actually do anything and just let the computer run their teams and will thus
need to be replaced. Whatever was done to make signup easier also brought in a
lot of truly uncommitted coaches.
So, the surplus of signups in any sport is not nearly as big as it appears.

Ken brought up a good point. Many of the leagues look full, but there are many
coaches who havent clicked so much as a button yet.

What does a N mean, next to a coaches name, on the coach list. Does it mean
demo season, or new havent pushed a button, or something else.

N = a new coach
* = a coach who has not changed anything for the season since initialization

To clarify, an N is a new coach who hasn't changed anything since getting the
team.

Ok, the IBA has 8 or 9 N's Wanna bet they wont payup?

I'd be a little tentative to expand soccer, I think 2 seasons ago the only had
12 teams and were talking about merging.
I'mm also wondering how many coaches have teams in both leagues?

The fact is that there are people who want to play DEL, who can't because the
existing leagues are full. And, DEL policies being what they are, there will
always be a certain number of new coaches (and even old ones) that are
inactive. So, rather than driving customers away, let's open up some new
leagues.

Andy,
Maybe consider this. Maybe select a few veteran owners who wishes to join the
new league and place one in each division of the new leagues? This would give a
lot more "veteran" leadership to the leagues (through PRs and giving advice)
and also would form a solid foundation to them.
If you decide to go this direction, I'd love the opportunity of getting in on
the ground floor of a new league and being a leader in the league. I can't
commit enough time to being a comish, but I can help be a community leader.
Just some thoughts,
Jason

Jason... that would defeat the purpose. If there is going to be an existing
owner/coach in each division, then there is a "mountain" for a newbie to climb
already.
Now, I could certainly see creating a developmental-type of league, with each
development team having a direct tie-in to team in an already established
league. That way, each new coach would have a "mentor" of sorts from the
already established league.
Wouldn't that be cool to see talent get developed in such a manner, and when
spots came open in that top-level league, development coaches would be moved up
based on merit and experience? I know that's a strange concept, but this seems
like the place to mention it.

Yes, new leagues would be a nice additon to DEL, since all of them are full.
But, like Ken said above, there are truck loads of inactive newbies entering
the leagues. For example, in the DBL, I had to boot 4 or 5 owners since they
were inactive. The next day I get a ship load of new coaches, out of these, 3
are still inactive, 2 have actually done something. Yes, it gets a bit old
with all these new coaches coming in & being inactive, but, hopefully, I get
some of the newbies to stay in the league for awhile, & the turnover rate will
go down.

I agree with Andy, I understand there are plenty of coaches who haven't tuched
there team but that was the case even before the new signup process at least in
the DBL anyway.
I think it would be unfair for veterans to own teams in the new leagues just
because the idea is getting some of the new owners to stick around long term.
There are still plenty of ways we can help out though.
