Ever? I don't know.
Though one data point is that Texas was ranked #115 when I took over four
seasons ago. I recruited that first season as a 9 prestige.

What is your metric for declaring Cincinnati officially rebuilt?
e.g. 10 wins, bowl game, bowl win, Top 25 Ranking, MNC, BCS bid, forum troll
consensus, stomp the daylights out of a sworn enemy etc.?

19/20 prestige OR the first BCS bid would be my judgment of being rebuilt.

Not even close:
this would look good if someone wanted to brag, but the hardest to get pieces
are already there. If you have a QB and an RB, you can't claim to a great
rebuilding project.
This is a .500 team for a good coach, easy.

you want a challenge? try coaching a Teir II team to a BCS game... there is no
greater challenge in CCEL...

I concur.
Opperman would have that if he just had two or three tier 1 non conference
victories in a season. I've been watching what he's been doing and it's been
amazing to see his teams climb. In fact I think he finished up in the top 20
this year. That's pretty impressive.

2: at Memphis 52, Florida St 17 - box
3: at Memphis 28, Missouri 20 - box
4: at Memphis 47, Cincinnati 23 - box
Memphis' first three wins of the season were all Tier I, Doc. The challenge
will be assembling enough talent with the Tier II ceiling of 16 prestige to be
able to bump up that non-conference schedule even more, because that's what it
will take to get into the top 12 (and the BCS).

I took Navy to a BCS game my first year, while San Diego State under Neal
McDonald went 13-0 and was just as deserving (but didn't get a BCS bowl). I
think that has more to do with how the stars align and how everyone finishes
than one person's accomplishment.
To me, turning a horrible team into a perennial power (which I never had to do)
is a bigger challenge.
Date: Tue Jul 1 15:36:32 2008
Sender: Gregor Ellis
I agree with the perennial power bit - that's tough.
But to be fair, when Keefe and I started in CCEL, it wasn't unusual to see Tier
II (no Tier III at the time) teams ranked pretty highly. In fact, there was a
constant chorus of complaints that it was unrealistic to always have a team
like Arkansas St, Colorado St, or Tulane, ranked so high. To do that today
would be a huge accomplishment and put a coach in the legendary class.
Speaking of legendary coaches, are you going to jump back in someday Keefe?

I guess I'm dating myself, then.
Just glancing around at the coaching in the EAFL, it looks much better than it
used to be.
I'm in the process of signing up for a team now. It's taken quite a while for
my 66 cents to be credited to my account. It's probably a lot of credit for
PayPal to extend to me these days.

Chris,
Sorry I should've said top 15-40 tier 1's. Personally, I think Eric's more
than capable of doing it.
I almost see the challeng for Memphis being their ability to find top flite
tier 1's that have the willingness to play them. Eric's got good talent and
can coach so it's just a matter of getting a favorable schedule for BCS
placement.
And Keefe, you did it back when the internet was born, so no good. ;)

Sender: Gregor Ellis
Glad to hear it Keefe!
I think Opperman's likely to do it as well if he's willing to stay there for
3-5 more seasons. The problem is that the 16 prestige limit absolutely means he
can't afford bad luck in training camps, especially with QBs.
Date: Tue Jul 1 20:06:50 2008
Sender: Don Keefe
I'm pretty sure Eric & I will be at Memphis indefinitely... I've talked to him
about promoting a few times, and he just won't have anything to do with it...
I'm excited to see what'll happen once we get a whole team recruited with the
16 prestige... this was the first year of making a real run at a BCS spot, and
hopefully that trend'll continue... we just have to not screw it up...

My recruiting skyrocketed two years ago. Grissett was a bit of a fluke, as was
Cole, but my freshmen and sophomores are pretty stout -- Hammond, Sousa,
Hofmeister, Lewis, Irlandez, Winslow... I need a QB, obviously, but if I have
two or three more classes like the last two, I'll be pretty good.
I actually requested four Tier I's this past year, but one of them didn't take.
And I'm not going to coach a CCEL team other than Memphis. I've had people try
to talk me into it, but I'm not leaving. I may be the only one, but my "dream
job" as Oz installed recently is in Tier II.

For now...until the latest conference shake-up starts in a couple of years.
Memphis--Big East
Missouri--Big Ten
These were the two biggest rumors at the Convention a couple of weeks ago.
Then Memphis would be Tier I.
Date: Thu Jul 3 11:52:07 2008

Yeah... that'll really help clear things up: Big Ten (12 teams), Big Twelve
(11 teams). It's not like the nation's math ability is dropping, so everyone
should be able to easily keep track of this.
Probably just a smoke screen so that no one will realize that they SHOULD be
working on a BCS playoff system.

Big Ten is actually an off color comment referring to Joe Paterno's manhood.

Now that I got a title do I qualify for having rebuilt my program?
I was wondering this recently because I know someone said on another old post

I think rebuilt is finishing in the top ten.
#43 talent at QB hardly qualifies as a big advantage for rebuilding.
After recruiting round 1 I am up to #59 in overall talent. With hopes I can
round up some more dregs and have a decent camp.
(probably not the greatest rebuilding job ever - but still a good try.)

I took off one season, missed two recruitings.. and went from a top 20ish team
to #71 in talent.
with no QB, no RB, 1 sr WR...
now thats depressing.
