I am trying to put some packages together to harness all the talent I put on my
teams to produce better than they do.
M.Nageotte ILB 32 0 8 9 2 9 2 3 0 23 -- -S--G- C C ILB
M.Bussey ILB 25 6 6 6 5 6 6 4 0 19 -- ------ B B OLB
T.Compton ILB 36 1 5 9 2 9 5 3 0 24 -- ------ B B ILB
D.Zasa ILB 33 1 4 9 2 6 5 4 3 24 -- -S--G- C C ILB
P.Huntington OLB 33 4 6 9 3 4 5 10 0 23 -- ------ A A OLB
A.Fath OLB 30 0 7 9 6 7 5 10 0 21 -- ------ A A OLB
A.Manley OLB 34 0 1 7 9 8 6 3 10 22 -- --L--H C C OLB
T.Lightfoot OLB 27 2 1 6 5 7 6 10 10 22 -- ------ C C OLB
Who would be the best blitzer/blitzers?
My guess would be Nageotte from what I can understand from the help, but not
sure.

Blitzing to me is mostly PB and some SP.
I think scheme does more for blitzing though.
The great one, AJ Perko, (which I say seriously when talking about scheming)
say rush 5 or rush 3 but don't rush 4.
This was mostly in reaction to a discussion of 3-4, but his point is that 5 is
what really gets the pressure on the QB.
That said, the whole 5-2 with one player dropping does work too.

Jeff-
I think you'd be hard pressed to get a definitive "best" blizer.
but I'd feel comfortable blitzing

M.Bussey ILB 25 6 6 6 5 6 6 4 0 19 -- ------ B B OLB
the 1 weight guys struggle more in the Pro's IMO.
You can probably mix it up quite a bit.

The best blitzers, in my experience, are big, fast and have reasonable PB.
Bussey would be my weak OLB, without question, and I would blitz him from
there.

Bussey and no question for me. Put him at WOLB, blitz and key pass and he'll
average at least a sack a game.

And also, while defense is always a matter of preference and I didn't look to
see what your D-line looked like, I think there would be a lot of room to move
guys around here.
In my schemes, which I think are fairly basic defenses, Nageotte would be a
godly weak DE, Bussey is a clear WOLB.
If you are going to blitz, keep in mind who you are leaving back as well. If
you aren't going 1-man or dropping a lineman, you want to leave two quality
zone defenders back. High PS and high INT are the keys here, which means you
want some two of Fath, Manley and Lightfoot back if possible.

Oz... c'mon.
and that was years ago, but I did crunch so much info when I first started.
The difference between the 3 and 4 man rush was so trivial, compared to the 5.
It just didn't make sense to rush 4. Something may have changed.
That said, there are a lot of championships won by coaches using aa standard
4-3 every down.
It's philospohy too, of course "bend but don't break" vs "big play"

Thanks for the advice guys.
I have generally used the vanilla defensive playbooks and won all my
championships from them.
However, I always have the most talented teams and have virtually no
championships in comparison.
I have dabbled a little in building a defense before in the EAFL and really
liked dropping the DT into coverage while blitzing. I think you posted one of
the craziest ones this last season AJ.
I am guessing you would use Bussey as the WOLB is that he is really fast(for a
lb)?
Date: Fri May 9 15:43:12 2008
Sender: Kyle Mayhugh
Yep. I've picked up guys virtually identical to him for nothing and gotten
them 20-sack seasons in the pros.

Sender: Jeff Blevins
Wow...
I know the general consensus is that it is worthless to blitz a cb. However, if
I were to try do you guys think this guy would have a chance?

I'd move Bussey to DE and let him run loose on every down. But that's just me.
He's not good enough with RS to be an effective LB.
Date: Sat May 10 13:11:05 2008
Sender: Kyle Mayhugh
His RS isn't great, but his tackling ability at OLB may be, depending on the
cirumstances and intangibles.
There's a line in the help files that I think is vastly underrated by many
coaches when lining up their defenses:
The fast player will better make/avoid open-field blocks and tackles.
I've been doing a lot of experimenting and studying with exactly how big of an
effect that is and what "open-field" means and I don't have it all nailed down
yet, but the early results are enough to make me suspect that I'd rather have a
6 SPD/6 RS OLB than a 1 SPD/8 RS guy.
Date: Sat May 10 14:25:33 2008
Sender: Doc Barnes
I think that's true. However, I've switched over my mentality with guys like
Bussey as DEs. Even though the size is somewhat lacking for the position, the
speed and blocking abilities more than make up for the size. Plus if you like
to blitz and have to have a guy drop from the line into coverage, a guy like
Bussey becomes a great choice for that role.
That's just my two cents, and I love to blitz.
Date: Sat May 10 14:40:06 2008
Sender: Kyle Mayhugh
I definitely don't hate Bussey as a WDE, either.
This is why I love the defensive side of the ball in DEL football. There is a
ton to mess with.
Date: Sat May 10 17:00:42 2008
Sender: Doc Barnes
I'd have him as the strong side defensive end.
Date: Sun May 11 09:26:07 2008
Sender: Jamie Davies
FWIW, I'd put Nageotte at WDE (not knowing what you already have on the DL),
put Bussey at WLB, Fath at MLB and Huntington at SLB.
And I'd be comfortable blitzing any of those LB's at any time. Keep defenses
off balance and guessing.
Great core of talent by the way--wow!

My line is not that good. Thinking about running a 3-4 defense to utilize my
LBs more.

jeff, jeff.... When are you going to let your team go and come and be my GM?
Dude you can pull some talent, I have a million ideas of what i would do with
those LBs! But I cant let me franchise go (YET)
Jaime nailed it perfectly, I would use compton as your #2 MLB (Both Fath and
Comptons Stamina is 0).
buzz me if you want some help designing a defense man
