For a long time I've thought that certain penalties seem to always occur more
frequently against the LEAST talented team-
(especially the non-play penalties like False Start, Delay of Game, Fumbled
Snap ie, the BS calls)

Penn State is horrible this year, so it has me even more thinking.
and before anyone says worse players committ more penalties- these type of
penalties, should be consistent, not change with your opponent.

7 FALSE STARTS, 1 Delay of Game- today vs Pittsburgh.

that is totally crazy. I had almost none in the pushover games.

Someone years back wrote an article in CBEL about how teams who are winning
seem to get all the breaks once they are up in the rankings...

I wonder?

stick "Drops" in that discussion too-

Not sure what it has to do with, but my team forgot how to defend a pass today
after doing a good job against a better offensive team with a better QB in week
1.

I'm never playing another non-conference road game again. We just got totally
raped by the randomator.

AJ, I think experience plays a huge roles in the "brainfart" penalties like
false start, face mask and roughing the passer. A couple seasons back, I had
two safeties for Auburn who both had TR of like 9 or 10. I could not go a
single game without BOTH of them being flagged 3-4 times for incidental
facemask. So I think TR has a lot to do with keeping your cool, making plays at
critical moments, and not committing "mental" penalties.

Kind of like real life . . .

I have seen posts in the past from long time coaches that state intelligence is
one of the key factors. Less intelligent players will make more dumb mistakes
leading to penalties.

I have seen this with my O-line. I had an A-rated stud commit penalties at a
higher rate than other less talented guys with an INT=1.

Roughing the Passer, Pass Interference- those are definately affected by the
aggressiveness setting.

I tell you though, for the past few seasons when Penn State plays Northwestern
or Michigan State we break records for false starts and drop passes...
against crappy teams we rarely do either.

I wouldn;t be suprised if their is a some talent quotient.
