#5/6 pretige in the entire league, targeting WRs and QBs as my top priorities
(WRs for the 3rd straight season!) and committing more than 40% of my total
points to landing 3 players from those 2 categories. The result - no QBs and my
last choice WR. Further, of my next 3 priorities (listing me as number 1
preference, in one case by 5 to 4 over the next) I land not a single one - they
were my next 3 highest level point spends as well because they fit my needs!
Just to top it off, the only BA I get was a great catch but one I underbid
because I was down by a 1 preference level, last on the list of 5, and behind
equal or higher prestige teams.

Sometimes I only wish the paranoid rants about how 20 prestige teams have it
all their own way were true!

It's all about lowering your expectations. I landed one CB, and I'm pretty
happy.

And here I was thinking, wow, Gregor got a pretty nice class at Kansas,
including several guys I was very interested in. For the record, I was
offering T.Thomas PT THIS season.

Kinda shows how competetive we are. I landed the #2 RB in the country in
Molina, but before I even noticed that, I was wondering: "Why the heck didn't
Kovach sign with me? I had a 5-leaning to everyone else's 4! WTF??". And
alarmist: I thought I struck out on TBs *and* PKs and was freely stringing
expletives into complete sentances, until I looked at my roster (I looked at
the DDN page first and missed Molina and Lee in the first/second/third glance).

And: Randomness can be a real pain in the asterisk, especially when I cannot
tell if it was random, or if I got out-maneuvered, or if I screwed something
up, or ...

Yeah - the class was decent but underperformed my prestige level. This is 2
seasons in a row that I haven't been able to get as good a group of recruits as
I got when my prestige was at 17/18.

Randomness is the big issue - it makes me wonder just what the value of the
preference is in recruiting and whether its even close to the randomness
factor.

you can have my QB,... I invited 36. Had the number one passing offense in
CCEL last year.. and QB's would rather sit the bench as #5 on the depth chart
somewhere else.

Look at him, here he is-

W.Lewis QB Fr 1 2 1 5 3 2 5 1 10 -- -S D C QB

I will bet anyone out of every QB recruited this year, he will end up with the
most completions, yardage and TD's... and be top 5 of all time.

(assuming he doesn't come out of camp as a 3 pass, 3 int or something)

I am confused on priorities...

I had a group set up where I indicated "sign 2".

I had 11 guys in the group with priority of 2.
I had 6 guys in the group with priority of 0.

I did not get the first three guys that came up in the recruiting order (all in
my priority 2 group).

The fourth guy from the group was in my priority 0 guys and I would have
expected to pass on him. However, I signed him only to see guys that I really
wanted more than him go very shortly thereafter on the list.

I did have that guy in a second group; but, wouldn't the system keep track of
which group he was signed from (the second group had fewer points on him that
this group)?

Loren, it sounds like he got signed from that second group. If a player is
listed in multiple groups, you will bid from the one offering more points, and
since the0-priority bid was effectively a zero (or simply N/A) the other bid
would be the only valid one at the time.

What I've learned about recruiting this season:

There is some comfort in knowing that your bad recruiting was due to operator
error rather than some ethereal supercomputer in the Arizona desert just
inexplicably hating you.

Kevin,
I agree with what you are saying and I was thinking that as I built the group.

What I am confused on is that apparently the sim signed the guy from my lower
value group based on the points...yet, considered him picked from the other
group when other players came up in that more critical group.

Sender: Gregor Ellis

If you are sure of that from the recruiting sequencing, you should report it to
Andy as a problem. I'm looking at something similar as I have points and
scholarships remaining yet apparently didn't bid on a guy who was in a group
where he came up last of all the guys in the group, none of whom I signed, and
is still available. I'm going over the results and my orders just to make sure
it wasn't driver error at this point.

To prove what either of you are saying, you need to make sure you've got your
LAST orders printed out so that you can check the whole thing through.

I've thought a couple of times that I had mistakes only to find that I had hit
the overall point limit or I put 0 PT promises on a group and so didn't get the
guy I thought I should have from that group.

Sender: Gregor Ellis

Yeah - I'm not sure yet if it was something I goofed on my orders or what. I
need to have an hour or so to really go over it including the last change to my
orders and the impact of that.

I believe UNC had 0 points to spend and landed this guy. I offered 7 points.
Take this as a lesson in the value of point spends and when not to spend too
many based on who you are up against.

N Carolina: SF B.Pitts (A-)

Inviting results - I believe UNC was a 5 lean to a 4 lean for both UVA and KU
with UVA actually listed as the second favorite team in the Inviting results
email.

2046 B.Pitts SF Fr 5 1 7 2 1 1 1 5 7 C B SF
N Carolina 21 R P S
Kansas 20 P S
Virginia 21 R P S
UCLA 19 P S
Syracuse 19 R P S

Now the real question is how Conroy missed out on this guy with 42 points to
spend in Round 2, equal prestige, and in the same region as UNC. Care to tell
us if you put any points on him James?

I do have my groups printed.

This might be too much to put into the Forum and have the formatting come out
ok.

well, that wasn't too bad. Not giving away too many secrets on this one I hope.

The player in question is Terada...I had him in a second group with zero
points.

He was the 195th player in the selection order and only the fourth player from
that goup, none of the first three had signed with me and I wanted to sign two
players. I still had four total roster spots open at the time.

I would think that this group would have passed on Terada and I would have only
signed him in my second group at 0 points.

I signed Chambers at the #205 spot and I can see missing out on the next four
to solid recruiters. I can even see losing out on Carter to Baylor due to bad
luck. However, since two players from this group went unsigned, I am fairly
sure that Terada was considered to come from this group.

Any thoughts?

I suppose that it is possible that I had bad luck and simply missed out on all
my 2 priority players and the remaining 0 priority players...then filled all of
my open spots by the time the last two players come up in the order.
