My Miss St team is pretty bad. Or maybe I'm a pretty bad coach. Anyway,
recruiting is coming up and every year, I seem to over shot who I can get to
visit. As a 12 prestige program, who should I be shooting for? I need a
starting QB this year. Is there anyway possible to get
A.Wine QB Jr 1 3 1 9 4 2 2 5 12 -- ------ -S B A QB 76.9
with an extra point, scholarship, and PT promise? Or should I just not even
waste the point/invitation?
Or what about
S.Holsinger QB Sr 2 4 2 8 2 2 5 3 16 -- ------ *S B A QB 78.9
As a No-Region player, think I have a chance if all the above is offered?
Is a C B player pretty much the most I can get?

Well after thinking, what is the most I can get without a PT this year
promise??

Those QB's will end up the 8th QB on a 20 prestidge before they make it to a
12.

I'm a 14 and I sent an x-point/scholarship/PT promise to about 40 QB's... just
hoping/hoping/ one of them somehow slips through.

I didn't see they were JR/SR- still they won't make it to a 12- a 17 or 18
would be lucky to get them.

and your PT promise only bumps you up about 1 number.
(still I'm sure I offered both the maximum too)

Most CCEL players would rather never play an actual down of college football
than go to a low prestidge school.

Why do players doubt PT? I think players should always believe it and if you
mess up and can't give it to him, you take the punishment.

"Doubt" also means uninterested in a PT promise.

If a guy is good enough to start immediately for a Tier 1 team, you wont get
them with 12 prestige. You need to plan long-term; look at the D-C guys who can
help you in two years.

As for PTP- "is ignoring" means he either doesnt want to play for you, or he's
not really that good. "Highly doubts" or "doubts" means he will consider your
school, so DO invite him!

(I'd write more, but I'm still limited to one hand and typing is a major
effort)

Max,

From our region (E) here are a few guys you could consider.

T.Brown QB Fr 3 1 1 6 7 1 2 1 8 -- C B QB
C.Dreis QB Fr 7 4 1 5 1 2 3 1 9 -- D C QB
M.Gornail QB Jr 0 5 3 6 3 2 2 0 11 -S D C QB
C.Walker QB Fr 0 1 1 5 4 1 2 5 7 -- D C QB
A.Wine QB Jr 1 3 1 9 4 2 2 5 12 -S B A QB

Dreis, Gornail and Walker are more likely to look at you but you could always
catch the attention of Brown and Wine with a pt promise, Brown especially. I
landed a nice C B QB when I was at Nevada just by offering him pt and spending
a bunch of points on him, and I had an 11 prestige. I think he was even on the
Pro Prospect list when he was a SR.

As for non region, even with a 12 you could have a shot at a number of those
QBs. If you can offer pt you may be able to bank on that for non-region guys.
They just want to play.

Most people know this, but it is always worth pointing out:

PT promises make a big difference for players who want them (indicated by an S
where scholarship would go if they were on the roster already), and they will
make almost no difference on players who don't want them.

One thing nobody has said clearly:

NEVER
NEVER
NEVER
NEVER offer a PTP to a player who isnt demanding one.

Really??

Never offer pt to a guy who isn't demanding it?

Are you sure?

Max ... because they want P/T, yes you have a shot at them.

Syracuse got a pretty decent Junior transfer when we were not much better than
a 12.

If it's really an area of need, then take the shot anyways.

I wouldn't say to do that all the way down, but I've seen Tier III teams
(really close to where you are since they are double dippers) land players like
that since they can.

Is it super likely? Probably not. But it is definitely possible. Plan to
drop 20 to 25 recruiting points on them and give them a recruiting point right
now headed into invites as well.

Red -- I do it sparingly ... NEVER NEVER NEVER ... well that's a good rule for
people besides me to follow :-)

"NEVER offer a PTP to a player who isnt demanding one."

I disagree. If a guy is clearly starting-caliber at a need position, even
though the PTP effect isn't as strong as if the recruit has an "S", it still
can help land him. If he's really not interested, he will "ignore" it and you
can just take back the promise before invites.

a Pt Promise gets you about a 1- 1 1/2 pt prestidge bonus.

- about a 3rd as much as it should be.

I don't think there is a fixed benefit to offering a ptp. My understanding is
that all players have a probability of wanting a pt promise and that the 'S'
denotes those likely to be significantly affected. That would mean that there
is a range of impact for the promise which tracks my own experiences with CA
and CB players wanting ptps: some will accept all 5 invites from higher
prestige programs not offering promises while others will only visit teams
makings ptps even if they are much lower prestige. And of course, many will
accept 1-2 high prestige program invites w/o ptps and 3-4 invites from much
lower prestige teams making the promise offer.

if you look at where a player is going you'll see

School A - 18
School B - 18
School C - 16 PT
School D - 17
School E - 17

a lot.

Meaning, more often than not if there is a lower prestidge bidding for a player
a PT promise is usually offered. Thats just a visual observation, but is seems
to be prevalent.

Agreed AJ - I just think the advantage is variable based on the player. It
seems to range from less than a prestige level up to around 3.

Im going to shut up and let others give advice, Im on a streak of being wrong
about what I tell people. So, DONT follow my advice, its probably wrong :-p
