April 6, 2008: Pro
Changed processing of restricted free agent bids. A team will now match the
second-highest bid for one year contracts, the same way that is done for
multi-year contracts.

anyone know how this will work?

That would seem to mean that you can bid the maximum you're willing to pay,
regardless of what others bid.

So, if you bid 6.00 on the WW and no one else bids higher than 4.00, you'll end
up paying 4.00 (or 4.01).

I don't think this really changes anything? Didn't realize it wasn't already
in place for one years.

I didn't either.

Andy had said in the past that if I bid 6.00 and the next highest was 4.00 that
I'd get the player for something like 5.00.

Apparently when he looked at the code he saw that it didn't work like that for
multiyear contracts, and now has just changed one-year contracts to be the
same.

BTW - in case someone just reads this thread and not the actual "recent
changes" page, this only applies to RFA bids by the original owner (I think
this would include franchise players as well).

But in normal bidding, it remains that if you "win a bidding war for a player
with a bid of 6.00, and the second highest bid is 4.00, you'll end up giving a
5.00 contract.

I realized this thread might end up giving a wrong impression, and might cause
people to bid on non-RFA's with the wrong assumptions.
