Anyone else as intrigued as I am about the upcoming second half of the current
EAFL season?
Of course, the biggest question is, can anyone beat Miami? Two-time defending
champs, during the peak of competitiveness in the league, and they appear well
on pace for a third title. They have talent in all the right places, and
Sherrod Keelo really seems to know how to manage it.
Still, a lot of intrigue moving forward:
*You can realistically make a case for any of the six 7-1 teams to win the
title. Miami, Houston, Atlanta, Philly, Green Bay and St Louis are all solid
teams from top to bottom.
*There are a handful of teams with 5-3 records (and Indy at 6-2) immediately on
the heels of the 7-1 squads. This group includes traditional powerhouses
Indianapolis, Oakland, Arizona, Chicago and Washington. Also some upstarts like
Doc's NY Jets who appear to be turing the corner, Kansas City under new
management, and Pittsburgh with their new quarterback.
Even the 4-4 teams are interesting. AJ is overachieving with the #32 talented
team in Buffalo, both Tim Cross in Jacksonville and Brian Pate in New Orleans
are lurking in this group, as well as the Wintermut/Stafford tandem with the NY
Giants.
The 3-5's can't be discounted yet either. Baltimore and Cleveland are within
two games of Pittsburgh in the AFC North, and while Conrad (Carolina), Kevin
(Detroit) and Blacky (Tampa Bay) are all probably a year out from contending,
the coaching pedigree in that group has to command some respect.
Toss in the fact that we have no idea where Rijfindelt will end the season, and
we could have a pretty fun ride the rest of the way.

I just wanted to play a role in the second half in some way.
I am with you on the competitiveness. The top ten remind me of a college top
ten, where it may just come down to who matches up with who in the playoffs.

The EAFL is very good right now...
I just wonder what veteran coach Sharrod Keelo really is?
I doubt he is just some random coach that drifted into EAFL, (and only EAFL)

If it is the same guy, he has been a long term owner from WebL.

PS... Hey Philly..
I may have lost by 39, threw 4 picks, had 5 sacks, and had 8 ugly penalties...
but check out this classic-
Third down, 29 yards to go, ball is at Buffalo 25, 13:13 remaining.
Offense: 232 Shotgun-Lone TB, no TE, TB strong inside tackle (draw)
Defense: 240 Tight 4-1, 1-zone coverage, pass stunt
Lazo (OLB) blitzing
Trayte runs strong inside-tackle draw.
Trayte bounces to weak inside-tackle.
Poor decision by Trayte.
Hole wide open, Trayte breaks through line
Trayte runs past Coulter (SF ).
Trayte runs through Colson (CB ).
Trayte runs past Little (SF ).
Trayte slips past Bastone (CB ).
Driven out of bounds by Herhold (CB ) for 45 yard gain.
I converted a 3rd and 29 draw

Yeah, that 3rd & 29 draw play conversion was a classic. But to counteract that
(as you pointed out in a different post), I did have my DT intercept a pass 30
yards downfield on a different play.
That game was pretty crazy, as I expecteitd it would be. It's not too often I'd
line up against a 5-4 and be thankful I had a run play called, but the way
things were unfolding in our game, that was indeed the case.
I really didn't know what you'd throw at me AJ. I figured you'd give this a "I
have nothing to lose" gameplan given you're #32 in talent and I'm #1.
I'm just happy I came away with a W.

I am going to start a thread about how ridiculous the draw play is in LY
situations.

already done, several times.
Odds of converting 3rd and 29 on
pass: 1 in 10. Most QB's can't even throw 30 yards in the air.
run: 1 in 4 or 5 if the defense is expecting pass.
admit that is crazy.

AJ:
I was busting your chops a bit with that post.
I do agree that there does need to be some sort of tweak to the sim on draw
plays in LY situations. They are far to effective.

I think, we all agree on that. Effectisness of draws (and DL in coverage is too
high)
Problem with the draw is, that the would be tacklers are arriving way too late,
so I guess the whole simulation would need to be tweaked.
On most long draws there is only one or two missed tackles
So I dont like our chanches, that it could be fixed soon.

I just got more or less knocked out of the EAFL this season by Doc. Looking
forward to next season. All I need is a lot of talent.

AJ,
It sucks having #32 talent in a league like EAFL. I was in the bottom five my
first three seasons and it showed. No matter what I did I couldn't get things
going. Plus with the absolute ridiculousness of the EAFL Waiver Wire, I've
never been able to sign some freak A A stud.
Sorry I ruined your season by owning you yesterday....;)

I'm confident I have a decent young QB.... thats a huge/huge/huge start.
