O.k. I'm in the dubious position of having a player that is boarderline that
was promised playing time (Don't ask me how in a 9-4 season I have him
boarderline...bad decision) I would kind of like to know where I stand with
this player. He has 67 more downs played then his back-up (equalivent to 1 1/2
to 2 games approx.) Has anyone else been in this position before and should I
be preparing for him to leave or for him to stay another season...just curious.

You played at least 850 defensive downs this season and he expected to play at
least 426 of those. I've never been in this exact situation but have been told
before that if a guy promised pt doesn't get his 50%+1 downs he'll leave.

Well, that sucks...anyway thats the rules. What happens to an ILB that doesn't
have a chance to play 50% of the plays because of the 4-2 set? I really wish
they would just list the player during the season as happy or unhappy none of
this boarderline stuff, it would definately make it easier to know whats going
to happen with a player.

I don't know if Gregor has it exactly right, no offence.

Here are my two QBs from this season:

G.Ensenat QB So 5 2 2 6 6 3 4 2 11 *S C B QB
E.Bradley QB So 1 5 6 7 5 1 5 0 16 *S B A QB

Ensenat was promised playing time and was in for 432 plays
Bradley was demanding playing time and was in for 644 plays.

Both players were 'happy' at the end of the season. I think what is considered
would be what Gregor said 50%+1 but based on the number of plays that were
using that position. However I think some weight is given to a guy who starts
at his position, just like my QB situation.

I would bet that at borderline he'll stay if he played more than the backup at
his position.

I'm not sure how your pt promised QB could possibly be happy with less than 50%
of the plays unless he was injured for some part of the season. Andy was really
adamant about this issue when he implemented the pt promise capability and was
very explicit in describing it. If we don't need to get them 50% or more of the
plays then I would like to see an explanation of what the requirements are now.

My only personal experience on this was a few seasons after it was implemented
and I had 2 guys promised PT with 1 at FB and 1 at TE. I had understood that it
was 50% of the plays that a player at that position was in the game and Andy
emailed me in response to my complaint that it was 50% of all Offense or
Defense plays regardless of your formations (which is why I almost never put a
player promised pt at ILB, FB, or TE).

Then I would have to say that for a position like QB there has to be some
weight towards the promise just because the guy starts. Neither of my QBs were
injured this season and the depth chart setting stayed the same all season.
Maybe the fact that for awhile I had blowout win settings to more came into
play, but there again I don't know, however I'm happy with how it worked out
and don't feel anything needs to be changed.

That might be it. I am serious however that we should get an explanation of the
rules on this - I went through 3 seasons of torture with a pt-promised WR who
busted season after season in camps who was never happy without at least 50% of
all offensive downs under his belt. Stone just took a prestige hit on this ILB
who played a higher % of all D downs than Ensenat did O downs for you. Its not
fair or right given the doc on how pt promises work and I think he has a valid
complaint on that score and suggest he take it up with the commishes and Andy.

I just think that the sim needs to be tweeked so that we get rid of the term
boarderline...I have no doubt that I will take a HUGE prestige hit for a guy
that started more and played more downs then his back-up...I just wish it would
say happy or unhappy that way you know if they are leaving

Does anyone know how extreme the hit to the prestige will be for this event?
I'm at an 18 now, how far will it drop? Just curious.

I have been in a position where one quarterback was "demanding" playing time
and the other was "promised". I made sure the promise was happy and the
"demanding" ended up being borderline at the end of the season. he ended up
coming back to my program, so I think there was a randomization involved and I
dodged a bullet.

Loren, that was the case for me with the same two QBs last season. The PT guy
was happy the demanding guy borderline. They both came back so I don't know
how it works.

Thats why I wish we would just get away from the boarderline and have it say
happy or unhappy that way you know where they stand, especially if the sim is
set up to really hammer those that promise playing time and don't deliver. What
is the definition of boarderline and why does one leave and another stay?? I
could see if a player was promised playing time and he leaves as unhappy
hammering that coach's prestige, but when its boarderline and there seems to be
some sort of randomization should a coach be hammered just as bad??? Doesn't
make sense.

Now before some one jumps in with the comment, let me head it off...I have no
problem taking the hit to my prestige, I knew the rules and it bit me in the
backside because I couldn't get my player to happy (where is the happy line
anyway???) I will graciously take my hit and move on. I'm starting this
discussion so that we can look at changing the rule in the future. I'm never in
favor of making an exception to the rule, but do believe that bad rules need to
be adjusted and I feel that this is a bad rule...should boarderline leaves hit
as much as unhappy leaves and where is the happy line why do we have
boarderline anyway? Something to ponder.

I look at "borderline" in college just like "retirement" in the pro games.
Sometimes it takes a while for the player to make his decision and they'll
sometimes leave the coach hanging.

The kid obviously is disappointed in his playing time and is considering other
options. He's probably having an internal struggle between his desire to be on
the Nebraska team and his desire to just play somewhere.

The hit will be 300 coaching rating. Which is about 1 prestige, I think.
