I'm definately losing this one....
anyone else watch their sodium? I ate some pre-made mashed potatoes before I
looked at the back, 2000 mg of sodium.
You can't get away from it.
I'm trying to stay below 1000mg per day- near impossible.

I was making some meatsauce the other day, and instead of throwing in my usual
couple tablespoons of sugar to cut against the acid in the diced tomatoes, I
ended up putting SALT, since one of my roommates had decided to refill the
sugar bottle with salt. That's a lost battle in the War on Sodium, AND the War
on Bad Taste!

I've got sugar licked... and fat in check... it's sodium I can't seem to get
around.
the ice cream parlor down the street makes me a no fat, no sugar French Vanilla
Ice cream that is incredible. That takes care of 90% of my sweet cravings.

Try using Sea Salt. It's more natural, still has the natural nutrients in it
and it isn't bleached. You can continue using the salt as normal only it won't
be as bad for you. Your body does need some salt, but the bleached salt is bad
for you in every way and good for you in none.

So, the whole "iodine in salt" thing is a sham?

I don't really use salt, but in just about anything from the grocery store
thats pre-made is just loaded.
I saw that for the average American about 77% of our salt intake (which is
about 5x the recommended amount) comes from processed foods.
Only about 15% comes from a shaker.

" So, the whole "iodine in salt" thing is a sham? "
Considering that you get iodine from dairy products, seafoods and many other
processed foods...yes. Much like when they put poisons in your toothpaste and
water and tell you it's good for you.

Unlike the War On Terror, at least the War On Sodium is winnable.

but like the War on Terror, I keep telling myself I am winning and things are
going great, but I'm still too chubby and have been that way for about 4 years.

That's okay AJ, just blame the next President for everything that goes wrong.
That appears to be the strategy many are adapting.

Stop eating so much and you'll lose weight. More veggies and less
potatoes/pasta.

I'm also newly diagnosed diabetic, so the old... just don't eat doesn't really
work for me anymore.
and the blood thinners made me temporarily retire from rugby.
so it's a relatively new lifestyle I need to adopt, and it don't come easy.

AJ, I'm skeptical of any edible fat-free and sugar-free product, especially if
its passing itself as ice cream, but if it works for you...

I've watched them make it.....
It's a small local parlor. Not all the flavors come out as good as French
Vanilla.
It probably uses Nutra-Sweet or something, regardless it doesn't effect my
blood sugar and thats what matters right now.
and 1 scoop in a protien shake, makes all the difference.

AJ,
Have you researched a low-GI diet? It's great for helping control blood sugar
spikes.
Cheers,
Brian

" It probably uses Nutra-Sweet "
You should investigate that, before you think it's the 'healthy' substitute.
