This idea of a temporary reprieve of the gas tax during peak driving season is
a terrible idea. Could McCain and Hilary pander any harder to the short-term
interests of voters?
Kudos to Obama for understanding what the right stance is on this issue, and
for standing up for it, even if it may put some votes at risk.

Stephanopolous asked Hillary if she could name and economist (or any expert)
who thought the gas tax holiday could be good...
and she said - she wasn't siding with economists....
I didn't know economist were evil, I thought they were just experts on the
economy. She sounds very GW Bushy there.

Seriously, what a joke! Hillary and McCain are promising a reprieve on the gas
tax this Summer? Neither one will be in the White House this Summer, and with
both basically full-time campaigning, not a chance they can take the
time/effort to push it through Congress, either. This is shallow pandering of
the utmost degree by those two. What an embarrassment for both of them.

It was 18 cents anyway- big freakin deal.
I paid 3.39 two weeks ago and now it's 3.69 for me, and how much of the 18cents
will the oil companies pass down anyway? I'm sure a pigeon will fly into a
refinery or something and cause prices to go back up.
I sort of feel like saying
"unless your going to take prices back dosn to $2.50 a gallon, you can shove
that 18 cents up where the sun don't shine"
- that actually feels good, especially when I say ass

Here's where I disagree with you, AJ ... I refuse to settle for $2.50 a gallon
as "low". I'm going to put on my conspiracy theory hat for a second and say
that the intent of these last three or four years of gas hikes is to train
consumers into being thrilled when gas eventually drops and "stabilizies" at
$2.25, $2.50 a gallon and happily fill up, rather than keep pushing for gas
closer to the $1-$1.50 range.

As I wrote 2.50... I thought the exact same thing.
Don't kid yourself though, they will put this envelope as far as they can. Oil
could drop to 50.00 a barrel, our gas prices will never go much below $3.00
again.

You are such a cartoon character. You really think that if the price of oil
went down by 60% that the price of gasoline would only go down by 15%? I'd love
to hear this logic.
I wouldn't hold your breath for $50 anytime soon, especially with Ballooning
Dollar Ben at the helm of the Fed, pumping excess liquidity into the system to
maintain the illusion of solvency while at the same time talking of relief for
people that have been foreclosed on, thereby punishing all the people that
behaved responsibly and perpetuating a lengthening of the overpricing cycle in
real estate.
Bernanke has succeeded in keeping American companies who export heavily from
completely tanking (Detroit being a prime example) but it has exacted a very
high price on consumers. Some Saudi prince just started a multi-billion dollar
fund devoted to overseas investment. I'd not be surprised to see him and his
friends nosing around South Florida real estate anytime now.

Henry that was an exaggeration, but if you look at the charts gas prices rise
proportionally with oil price.... but for some reason they drop at about
10-15% less.

Because when oil prices rise, refiners get killed.
