I still don't like her-

but she just called Obama out to a "Lincoln Style" debate, and he is wussing
out.

Lincoln Style, no moderator

Who you gonna vote for? You don't like hilary, Obama is a wuss. All you have
left is McCain or Nader.

No one's a wuss, this is standard political strategy, you find it in most all
elections on both sides of the aisle. The candidate who's behind always asks
for debates, the candidate who's ahead always resists.

A debate (at least in theory) places the two on equal footing, which the
leading candidate never wants. When you're ahead, shuffling the deck is in
general a bad thing, you have more to lose than to gain.

From Obama's perspective, he has already debated Hillary many times, and come
out ahead in the election partly because of that. Why should he bother with
more debates? Especially if they're going to be as horribly organized and
moderated as the one on ABC a couple weeks ago.

Also, without a moderator, what prevents it from degenerating into a contest of
who can talk louder than whom?

I'm wondering what two people with practically the same ideas would debate
about.

I think no moderator would really be revealing of character- I know most
Republicans can yell louder than others (at least conservative pundits can)

Somehow i don't think the average american would have the attention span for a
classic lincoln-douglas style debate. (the first speaker gets 1 hour, 2nd
speaker gets an hour and a half, and the first speaker then gets a half hour
rebuttal).

What a total hoax. A "Lincoln-Douglas style" debate would be worthless. Lincoln
and Douglas were representing the opposite sides of the great issue of the day,
slavery.

What are Hillary and Barack going to debate? Who wants to get out of Iraq
faster? Who will give bigger hugs to illegal immigrants? Who's spouse has
caused more embarrassment to the campaign?

Let's see if Hillary (assuming she gets the nomination) is so anxious to have a
similar bare-knuckles debate with McCain.

I think McCain had tickets to the last Lincoln-Douglas debate, though he found
both of them to progressive for his taste.

Wow, an old-persons joke, AJ...i'm sure he's never heard those before.
hopefully he can borrow one of Reagan's lines:
"Just to show you how youthful I am, I intend to campaign in all 13 states."

actually it has more to do with his archaic... abstinence only sex education
and things like that.

If she is smart, she will continue to call him out to debate and when he
refuses, she should say:

"Barak won't debate me. How is he going to do when he goes up against McCain
in November if he can't even beat me?"

She has to do two things to win the nomination:

1) Take the lead in the popular vote including Florida (but not Michigan).

2) Continue to win and show herself a stronger candidate than Barak.

I, of course, want it to go to the convention so that they beat the living
daylights out of each other and spend money.

"I, of course, want it to go to the convention"

All this discussion about Hillary and Obama costing each other the general
election due to a long primary season is really quite shortsighted. If
anything, the Democrats will benefit greatly. They are staying in the
spotlight, keeping their issues on the tip of the discussion, and making sure
all skeletons are out of the closet before the Reps can do their share of
defamation.

On the flip side, people tend to have very short memories when it comes to
politics, and once it's settled, it will be a matter of a couple weeks before
the Dems rally around the winner (i.e. Obama). All this talk of masses of
Hillary supporters not voting for Obama in the Fall, or vice versa, is a bunch
of bunk.

Whatever extra funds are spent due to the long primary season will easily be
made up for -- Dems will have a huge advantage in contributions to work with
even if we have to wait until the convention to find out who the nominee is.

I'll be supporting Obama assuming he wins, and I'm actually quite pleased that
he is in this situation -- as the "winner", but not yet having lost the
spotlight that goes with a candidate in a close race. McCain must know this is
bad for him.

I'm not just saying this as a liberal, but Morris's point is accurate.

People always overestimate the intelligence of the masses I think. I saw a
survey done on the street here and several people thought Obama and Hillary
were the only two running for President.

Is it that people have a short attention span, or is it that they are too
easily influenced by the "mainstream" media?

(Damn, I sound more like a Republican every day . . .)
