Probably only Blackie, Jeff, a couple others and myself will even post on this
one, lol, but who you got coming through the first round?

West
Det/Nash - Wings get through fairly quickly. Close games but way too much
depth with Detroit with Homer and now apparently Samuelsson back.

SJ/Calg - Gotta be the Sharks. Calgary will put up a fight but Kipper doesn't
look the same anymore and outside of Iggy, no one scares you offensivelyy
although Phaneuf is an absolute beast.

Minn/Col - I'd say this is the closest in the West by far. The Avs have skill
but are injury prone (my personal over/under on the number of games before
Forsberg gets hurt again - 4) and if there's one thing Minny can do it's hit.
I'll give the Wild the edge in 7 but a Colorado win wouldn't surprise me at
all.

Ana/Dal - Looks like it should be close but I just don't see the Stars as
focused enough. At the deadline, they were closing on Detroit, pick up
Richards and go in the tank. Anaheim coasted down the stretch but it's the
same team (less one key player from last season) that won it last season so
that's enough to get by Dallas.

East
Mtl/Bos - Bergeron's return buys one emotional win for the Bruins but that's
it, Habs cruise.

Pitt/Ott - If Emery weren't a head case and Alfredsson wasn't out, I'd take the
Sens for the upset with their experience. But, Sid and Co. should roll despite
the fact that their goaltending scares me despite the run Conklin had in
mid-season.

Wash/Philly - Interesting series. Ovechkin and Co. versus a bunch of thugs.
Philly might pound its way to one win and although they've got some talent up
front, I think the Caps are way too hot right now. That said, the tank could
empty at anytime but I don't think it'll be in this round.

NJ/NYR - The Rangers have skill up front, albeit Jagr's too flakey to be
counted on as a force, but despite the lovefest for Lundqvist, I'm not sold for
some reason. Broduer's older and shows more weaknesses than he used and the
Devils can't score so despite my misgivings on Lundqvist, I'll go with the
Rangers.

First round? All I know is that the Blue Jackets have 2 first-round picks
(starting with #6) ... Hopefully Colorado loses early so the second of those
is a decent one. :)

Det/Nash-- Det in 5, maybe 4
SJ/Cal-- SJ in 7, going be be a rough series
Minn/Col -- Col in 6 or 7, they are on a roll
Ana/Dal -- Ana in 6 or 7, wouldn't be surprised by a Dallas win
Mtl/Boston -- Mtl in 4 or 5, Price too strong
Pitts/Ott -- Ott in 7, I'm an Ottawa fan hoping for a miracle
Wash/Philly -- Wash in 6,
NJ/Nyr -- Nyr in 6 or 7

I would just like to use this space to bitch that I can't watch any of the
first round on TV. From what I can tell it is televised on CBC,TSN and
something called "Versus" (which no one I know can even verify really exists).

For the record, I am living in Florida where we do have hockey teams, but it is
hard to prove that also ;)

hey, I dust off my Penguins Jersey every year about this time.

Darren,

You may watch the games free online at either cbc.ca/sports/hockey or tsn.ca.
I believe those two networks alternate coverage of series, with Wednesday's
offerings (Ottawa v Pittsburgh and Calgary v San Jose) on CBC.

I watched a couple minutes of the Pens game online prior to posting this, and
the quality of the feed is excellent!

Brian

Go Sharks!

What little hockey involvement I have goes back to when I lived in the SJ area
... was there from 1968 to 1993.

In Atlanta, I go to occasional thrashers games when given free tickets.

The Florida Panthers have a 50.00 all you can eat and drink from their club
lounge level I hit a few times a year. I probably eat 50.00 in bacon wrapped
scallops alone.

AJ,

$50.00 all-you-can-eat-and-drink at a Panthers' game? That sounds like a great
setting for the frequently written about DEL gathering/reunion. Especially
with bacon wrapped scallops!

Brian

My Blackhawks missed out by three lousy points. They are going to be sooo good
in 2-3 years. Or maybe sooner.

Kyle,

From Chicago, HUGE Hawks fan! Went to the Sunday game against the Blue Jackets
when Kane scored in the shootout! We are going to be tough next season!

Heck yes. Toews and Kane are just the tip of the iceberg. So much young talent
it is sick.

That's what happens when you draft high so many years in a row.

"That's what happens when you draft high so many years in a row." -K.M.

Only if your organisation has a clue about how to handle the draft. The Leafs
have yet to demonstrate they could go through situations similar to the 'Hawks,
'Pens, and 'Habs and come close to such results. Of course with Leafs' fans,
the on-ice product hardly matters.

Based on outcome, rather than length, a hasty tabulation appears that all the
prognosticators tied in the first round with a 5/8 record.
