I would be willing to maintain records for an Axis and Allies League.
I was thinking that the format would be simple at first. Play a game against
every other player. One on one games. The schedule would rotate so that every
one played an even number of games as the Axis and Allies. The top X teams
would make the playoffs depending on how many people we have.
If we had enough people we could split up into divisions and play a home and
home against your division. Maybe we could do it EPL style and make it a round
robin. We could even get into relegation or whatever their fancy word is.
The games would need some sort of time limit to them. Something reasonable. I
think that when people try to start these things, they tend to go overboard
with mandatory limits which ends up turning people off. At the same time, we
have to prevent someone from not making any moves ever. That is all something
we could discuss.
If no one wants to play, I will play with myself.

Tim, even though the description sounds much more exciting than the game, it's
still quite enjoyable.
Up to six players can join, but as few as two is an option. I'll start a two

see what the cool kids are up to!

Is everyone here planning on joining the Yahoo Group? I like the idea of doing
it there.
I agree with two games against each person. One Allies and one Axis for each.
I think that the playoff format should be best of 3 or 5 for the finals, with
the top seeded player picking his "home" team.
If we have 6 people, I suggest that the top 3 make the playoffs. #3 playing #2
in the first round (best of 3) and #1 getting a bye.
I am trying to use my experiences in Madden Leagues from 15 years ago as the
template.

Date: Thu Feb 21 11:33:00 2008
Sender: Jeff Luddingsmash
Six players: Luddingsmash, Kendell, Old Lyme, AJ, Blackie, Dust
Schedule: play each person twice (once as Axis and once as Allies).
Game Set-up:
-The ALLIE (home) player should set up the game and do first turn.
-No attack russia on first turn. IPC victory off.
-Email addresses are in "members" are (see left nav bar)
SCHEDULE:
*First name is the ALLY player (Home team). He should set up the game
against the names beside his name. So:
"LUDDY- v Kendell, v Lyme"
means Super Luddy should set up a game against Kendell and Lyme with
himself as ally and them as the stinkin Axis.
That way 4 games will be played simultaneously (2 home, 2 away) for
Part 1 and Part 2 of the schedule. Part three only has two games
running simultaneously.
So please set up your "Part 1" games.
PART 1:
LUDDY- v Kendell, v Lyme
KENDELL- v Lyme, v AJ
LYME- v AJ, v Blackie
AJ- v Blackie, v Dust
BLACKIE- v Dust, v Luddy
DUST- v Luddy, v Kendall
PART 2:
LUDDY- v AJ, v Blackie
KENDELL- v Blackie, v Dust
LYME- v dust, v Luddy
AJ- v Luddy, v Kendell
BLACKIE- v Kendell, v Lyme
DUST- v Lyme, v AJ
PART 3:
LUDDY- v Dust
KENDELL- v Luddy
LYME- v Kendell
AJ- v Lyme
BLACKIE- v AJ
DUST- v Blackie
PLAYOFFS:
Top three teams make it. #1 gets a bye. #2 and #3 play best of three
to see who advances (each plays ally once. Sides in the tiebreaker
game is determined by the #2 seed)
REGULAR SEASON TIEBREAKER RULES:
#1- Head to head record. Failing that go to #2
#2- Who lost to Blackie? If you lost to him you don't deserve the
higher seed, you loser! If both teams lost, who lost more? Failing no
difference here, go to #3.
#3- Random WW2 playoff quiz. Player that answers the most questions
correctly wins.

Thanks Jeff for setting this up.
A few quick questions:
1. Does it matter which axis the visitors are. e.g. For the 2nd game that i'm
supposed to start up:
KENDELL- v Lyme, v AJ
Should I make Lyme Germany and AJ Japan?
1a. And if so, just to make sure is Lyme = Joshua?
2. I don't want to throw a wrench into the schedule, but I thought Lord Bremen
said he wanted to play. Does he still want to play, and is going to be able
to.

kendelll
they are all 1v1 games. So you actually have to set up two different games. One
with Lyme and one with AJ. In both games you are the allies (all three
countries). Lyme is both axis in one game. AJ both axis in the other.
1 on 1 league.
That way there are no excuses for dustie.

I'd appreciate feedback about how realistic the following proposed change would
be:
If air support is sent with an attack involving transports, the planes are
committed to the battle without any possibility of retreating.
Now, I understand why units sent in on transports can't retreat, but in my
thinking, through radio contact, once pilots realized their ground units had
been destroyed, they would fly away instead of remaining in combat...is that
logical?

While users don't have options to make changes to the game, it's the same idea
as DELers making suggestions to Andy about what they'd like to incorporated

I just want feedback from others if my A&A suggestion would be realistic,
before submitting it to the site.

hey, since when can u move a land unit into a coastal terrority, have your
transport move into that terrority and then move back to your same square and
unloadem.
e.g. i'm playing a game right now and noticed that,
1)An infantry unit based in westernd canada, can move to eastern canada,
2)load onto a transport based in UK sea zone
3) and unload into western europe all in the same turn!!!
Date: Sat Mar 15 04:43:00 2008

It's not that the infantry unit is moving into eastern canada first...it's that
technically western canada is also adjacent to that sea zone above eastern
canada as well. (I didn't know that was true either until recently).

That's true, especially when 1/6 of the time you get stuck with crap like
Rockets. I usually only go for research when the balance of power has clearly
shifted and winning by conventional warfare seems very unlikely. Although one
game, years ago, playing as the US, i decided to mix it up and spent 35 on the
first turn on research, and got 2 or 3 sixs (i think i got heavy bombers and
super industry, and maybe something else less useful). the game didn't last
long, even after germany took russia.
