The second season of the Dayton Project is completed and the results were
mixed. On the positive side the talent of the roster was improved by both
walkons and recruits. On the negative side the 6-24 record was disappointing.
The team did gain a landmark victory over UMass but lost many close games and
finished last again in the A-10.

OFFSEASON
I had to make 3 scholarship decisions on players that had played this season.
Tobias and Jackson were both walkons last year and they both played...Tobias
because he was good enough, Jackson because he demanded PT. I decided to grant
both scholarships...
K.Tobias SF So 7 1 5 4 5 4 3 10 100 6' 9" -S C B SF
M.Jackson SG So 3 7 9 4 1 2 2 12 100 5'10" -S B A PG
Tobias' skill rating has taken a drop since he walked on and was rated as a BA
player. I couldn't cut a great defender like Jackson and he is only the 3rd BA
player on the roster (started as a CB as walkon). I decided not to honor the
request of C.Leverenz. I would like to have a complementary shooter as my
other SG to pair with Jackson and Leverenze did not fit the bill.
C.Leverenz SG Fr 3 7 4 3 3 2 5 11 100 6' 6" *- C B C

WALKONS
Dayton once again received some good results with 2 solid walkons. The team
talent rating soared to #105 up from #183 at this time last season. Here are
the top 2 walkons:
B.Boward C Fr 3 5 5 2 3 2 7 8 100 6' 9" -- C B C
S.Tran SG Fr 4 4 1 2 4 5 2 7 100 6' 0" -- C B PG
Both players look to make the club and Tran appears to be a possible candidate
for the shooter role next to Jackson at SG. Both players probably will
redshirt. Here are the rest of the walkons:
F.Cendan PF Fr 1 2 0 1 6 5 2 7 100 6' 8" -- D D PF
D.Dunkel SG Fr 3 6 5 3 1 2 2 9 100 6' 3" -- C C PG
B.Book PG Fr 4 5 2 1 1 2 4 7 100 6' 2" -- D C PG
M.Delaughter PG Fr 1 4 2 5 3 2 4 8 100 6' 2" -- D D PG
All four will probably be cut pending the results of inviting...

RECRUITING SITUATION
Dayton has 3 scholarships and the recruiting prestige has improved from 10-11.
With only 1 senior on the team I have decided that I will only use 1
scholarship on an underclassman. That will hold 2 and give me 1 more when King
graduates. However, Garrity will play a backup role and then demand a
scholarship at seasons end dropping me back to 2 for season 56 recruiting.
Garrity was a CA walkon last year and redshirted.
M.Garrity C Fr 5 4 0 2 7 1 4 6 100 6'10" *- C B C
I am again hopefull of a major improvement in wins this upcoming year and with
it a possible 2 point bump in prestige. I would rather have 2 scholarships
with a 13 prestige than 2 this year with an 11. On that note...I decided to
use the 2 scholarships to recruit senior players that can come in and play any
role this year.

INVITING RESULTS
Dayton invited 25 players and received visits from 13. Much like last year
with the walkon success I decided to shoot high in recruiting. I invited only
CC/CB/CA players from in-region except for senior players from the No Region.
I spent the extra point on each of those senior players and used 6 additional
extra points on players in region for a total of 18 spent points (started with
48). Here are the inviting results:

Dayton has received verbal commitments from:
G.Cohane C Sr 5 2 6 3 1 1 6 14 100 7' 1" *S C C C
A.Shea C Sr 5 2 0 4 4 1 1 14 100 7' 0" *S C C C
We have both of these players if we want them for nothing. We simply have to
put in a recruiting order for them. They cost no scholarship or a single
point. On top of that we have a good shot at two other seniors who will take a
scholarship:
M.Dimick C Sr 5 2 2 3 7 1 1 16 100 6'10" *S C C C
M.Raiche C Sr 1 7 2 3 8 1 3 16 100 6' 7" *S C B C
Our top competitors for the two players are Radford and Liberty both out of the
Big South Conference and coached by Bob.

We have several very quality choices to choose from for our underclass
scholarship.

The Dayton Flyers welcomed 4 new recruits to the program on Monday. Before
taking a look at them here is a brief synopsis of this years recruiting plan.
First it is important to remember the original plan for building this program.
We have 8 years to see how good Dayton can become. I set a 4 year time table
in which to "Build the Core". This is year 3. The team has improved through
both walkons and recruits. This season with 3 scholarships available the plan
was to spend just one so as to have 2 for next season. Then I decided to
recruit 2 seniors that might be able to help. In the end only 1 senior was
given a scholarship but 2 more have come without. Our top priority was a
freshman that would become a key member of the core. Rather than spend all of
the scholarships on underclassmen now, I decided to defer two of them for next
season because I hope to have a .500 season and therefore a better recruiting
prestige.

Here are the newest recruits:

R.Guerra SF Fr 3 5 6 3 4 3 3 10 100 6' 6" -S C B PF
DEL grades Guerra as an A recruit. He will more than likely redshirt but we
will wait to see what training camp brings. He has the beginning skill set of
a prototypical SF. Hopefully he will improve in all areas but especially in
scoring. If he can add 2-3 points of scoring and improve his passing a bit he
could become an AA player.

M.Dimick C Sr 5 2 2 3 7 1 1 16 100 6'10" *S C C C
He is a transfer from Texas AM CC where coach Skylar Wilton has put together a
great tier 3 program. Dimick was a solid player as a Junior averaging 11
points and shooting 56% from the field. He is not a great defender or
rebounder but we will find a role for him.

G.Cohane C Sr 5 2 6 3 1 1 6 14 100 7' 1" *- C C C
Cohane transfers in from Michigan State. He does not have a large body of work
to evaluate but did grab 174 rebounds a year ago in 20 minutes a game. Bottom
line is he is 7'1" and aggressive. We can use that. Agreed to play without a
scholarship.

A.Shea C Sr 5 2 0 4 4 1 1 14 100 7' 0" *- C C C
Shea also agreed to play without a scholarship. He transfers from Brian
Goodalls program at Northern Arizona where he averaged 6 points on 60% FG
shooting a year ago. We will try and get some production out of him on the
offensive end.

Round 2 invites went poorly as not a single player came to visit. We have 1
roster spot open and had hoped to fill it with a nonscholarship player.
