Tobias and Jackson (both walkons) are demanding PT so they have to play. Doyle
is too good to not play. Annalaro had a good camp and so he plays as well. 4
freshmen in the starting lineup plus Annalaro and Leverenze. Leverenze will
demand a scholarship at the end of the year and will probably not be given one.
Jackson will have to earn one with his play. Today he had 3 steals and only
allowed a 0.2 look on defense which is his specialty. He was moved from PG to
SG for the start of the season.

Game 2 vs Detroit in the finals of the Dayton Project Tournament. Detroit has
a very good team with two 7 footers at center and power forward both AA players
and another AA at SG. This would be a very good win. Team talent is #79 and
coached by David Berg

Interesting that two C-rated guys demand PT but the B-rated guys do not? Could
it be because they don't have scholarships?

If you are worried about Leverenz demanding a scholly at the end of the year,
why not make him 3rd on the depth chart at PG and SG, and play Soldner as the
top back-up at both?

Maybe that wouldn't matter for his scholly demand, but I think Soldner is the
better choice anyway.

Soldner gives you something that none of your other guards have, a scoring
threat. And his passing and intelligence should make him almost as good a
defender as Leverenz, unless he's matched up against a bigger guard.

Interesting thought by James and I will look into it. Here is game 2

Detroit 73, at Dayton 70
Championship game of The Dayton Project Tournament

Disappointing loss to a much better team, but Dayton had this game and gave it
away with missed free throws 16/28. Turnovers are much improved from a year
ago with Doyle having 7 assists and just 1 turnover. We went after the Detroit
big men and got their stud C (Carlock) in foul trouble with 4 first half fouls
and 0 points. He exploded for 16 in the second half to beat us. Rogers scored
14 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Flyers.

It's been a frustrating season for the Dayton Flyers. Fresh off a great off
season it looked like the team would be able to take a big step forward this
season. The nonconference schedule was set for success while at the same time
playing teams that were right around our level. However, the harsh reality is
that the team is 2-6 and a long way from getting to where we want to be.

1: at Dayton 68, Valparaiso 55
2: Detroit 73, at Dayton 70
3: Charleston So 65, at Dayton 63
4: Ohio St 81, Dayton 52 (exh)
5: Vanderbilt 83, at Dayton 81
6: at Oregon 72, Dayton 56
8: at Dayton 85, Akron 76
9: C Michigan 80, Dayton 75
10: Detroit 75, Dayton 68

The closeness of the losses is agonizing. Discounting the exhibition game
(which shows how far away we really are) the team is in a shoulda, coulda,
woulda mindset. The first 3 losses were by a combined 7 points. The Oregon
game we were without our best player and the last two losses were games we had
the lead late and gave away.

We play another nonconference game at home today against 3-4 Virginia before
entering A-10 play. It is going to be a long season again in Dayton.

Just so anyone following knows....I have not changed the settings for this team
since game 1. I have stuck with a consistent game plan (and consistently
lost!). No defensive changes, no offensive changes, no game play style tweeks,
training, nothing....
