I have this guy demanding a scholarship:
C.McAllister SF So 7 7 3 2 1 4 0 9 100 6' 4" -0.08 B A PG
His intel is too low for PG, he cant shoot well enough to play SG, and hes not
really tall enough to play SF. Still, Id hate to cut him loose and have him
become a star elsewhere.
With all the bad decisions Ive made in the past, I dont much trust my judgment
anymore. Any opinions on burning a schollie on him?

I think he could be a solid SG.

I'd say with another two points of Sh by the time he's a senior, he'd be a fine
shooting guard and worth the schollie.

Red,
I would for sure keep him if I were you. If you use the sortable list on your
roster page you see that the sim values him as your #1 SG. His defense is his
key attribute and I wouldn't get too hung up on the 4 shooting skill. First it
has a chance to improve over his career and second there are lots of players in
this league that make 3's with that kind of skill. In fact my backup SG this
year was a 5 scoring 2 shooting and made 31/63. UAB's best 3 point shooter
Widmer made 87 as a 3 scoring 4 shooting. I tend to value players that are
rated BA by the sim and hate to see them transfer when I don't have
scholarships to use, especially when it's someone young like McAllister. Are
you going to get that good of a player in walkons? Maybe. Are you going to
recruit that good of a player? Maybe. Bottom line is he can play (start) for
your team and you will still have 2 scholarships left for recruiting this year.
Also consider playing Bates at #2 PG.
You will have to try to somehow get something out of Orzech and K.Johnson so
playing them at their SG position with Bates at the point solves that issue.
Be careful to not play any nonscholarship guys this year (that you will want to
keep) as you will only have 1 scholarship available the following year with
just 1 senior...unless of course you get 1 or 2 seniors this year. If you get
a great walkon who will be demanding a scholarship next year you may want to
target a senior this year in recruiting for sure.

To clarify my comment about McAllister as the #1 SG on the sortable list.
D.Cueto PG Jr 9 7 2 5 3 3 1 12 6' 4" -- 523.5
B.Elliott SF Gr 7 4 3 3 7 5 7 16 6' 5" -- 469.1
B.James PG Gr 6 7 1 5 7 1 2 19 6' 5" -- 461.0
N.Taylor PF Gr 8 5 3 3 6 3 3 14 6' 9" -- 460.3
M.Rollin SF Jr 6 7 5 3 2 3 1 12 6' 7" -- 458.2
C.McAllister SG So 7 7 3 2 1 4 0 9 6' 4" -- 455.7
C.Bates SG Sr 5 4 1 8 3 7 1 14 5'10" -- 452.5
M.Orzech SG Jr 4 5 3 4 6 4 3 12 6' 0" -- 425.7
D.Johnson SG So 5 5 4 2 5 4 1 13 6' 2" -- 423.6
Leaving Cueto and Rollin at their positions and then taking out the Graduates
leaves McAllister #1 slightly ahead of Bates.

Thats an interesting thought , David. I saw the same thing when I did a sort at
the beginning of last season. I have three concerns with him as a PG:
1) His TO/Assist ratio. He has more TOs then assists-is that a function of the
position he plays? Would he do better as a PG?
2) I have found that PGs who have some shooting skill seem to think they should
shoot first and ask questions later. Maybe its not a bad thing, but I have a
fear of my PG just running up the court and launching treys all the time. I
wouldnt even worry about THAT, if my team were better rebounders.
3) If my best 3-point shooter is playing point, wouldnt that encourage
opponents to trap more?

If you look at my roster this season at Kentucky I had two players very similar
to him - Light and Gunther.
Light is taller so I play him at SF but Gunther is that player to a "T" when he
gets to be a fifth year Senior. I played Gunther as my #2 PG because I do like
more shooting at SG position, but... I could not have gotten as far as I did
this season without the depth that I had at defense.
He's a big time keeper and don't be afraid to play him as the #2 or #3 PG on
your roster or the #2 or #3 SG if you are deep at the point.

Well I had him at #3 PG at the beginning of the season; he ended up at SF due
to injuries. My only real complaint with McAllister as a PG is his low IN.

McAllister would play for my Louisville team as it stands right now. He would
either start or be #2.
