This has never happened to me before but on CBEL Rhode Island there is not only
one but TWO players demanding a scholarship for next year. What
confuses/amazes me is that neither have set foot on a court yet. Here are the
players in question
Name Ps Yr Ps Df Ag In Sc Sh St Tr Ht
M.Davis PF Fr 5 5 1 4 3 1 4 12 6'11" C B
C.Franklin PG Fr 7 4 8 4 3 2 8 10 5'11" A A
Now Franklin I don't necessarily have a problem with as he's basically amazing.
But Davis? He's not even a 'B' rated player. He's not better than my
starting PF. Why is he demanding a scholarship?
Cheers,

I think there was a tweak to the SIM about six or eight months ago because you
used to be able to redshirt ANY freshman before camp and not have them demand
playing time AND red-shirted freshmen never would come back and demand a
scholie.
I noticed that change last season on my hockey and football teams ...

Check.
Top freshman will now demand a scholie without playing a minute.

There is no change to the scholarship-request algorithm listed on the
recent-changes link during the past 1.5 years:
http://www.dolphinsim.com/news/changes.shtml. Though it should not be
surprising that an A-rated player demands a scholarship.

I have to say that I am a little surprised that Davis is requesting one and it
kills you. If you give it to him then you have no scholarships for recruiting.
The only reason I can think of for his demand is that the sim kind of likes
him at center (compared to PF)...sortable list results...
J.Hamlin SF Jr 10 8 0 3 5 3 4 12 6' 8" -- 532.7
A.Hatter C So 9 7 1 2 3 1 1 13 6'11" -- 495.1
B.Miller PF Jr 4 6 1 3 7 2 4 12 6'10" -- 490.7
B.Moore SG Jr 2 4 4 6 9 7 3 14 6' 6" -- 486.6
W.Carroll SF Sr 6 3 6 4 8 5 5 15 6' 6" -- 478.2
M.Davis PF Fr 5 5 1 4 3 1 4 12 6'11" -- 434.0
F.Marino C Fr 1 8 3 3 2 3 3 8 6'10" -- 433.8
R.Miller C Sr 2 7 5 3 2 3 5 15 6' 9" -- 428.0
Not sure if this is the real answer but...
I have a question. Was Franklin rated AA at the beginning of the season or did
he just bump up from BA at the end of this season? If he was AA at the start
of the season you may have made a mistake because if so he is unlikely to stay
4 years and redshirting therefore a waste. AA rated true freshmen almost
always end up leaving early...at least in my experience.

Check out Dayton. I have a worse player who redshirted last year that is
demanding a scholarship. He is a DC player. On the sort the sim values him as
a #2 SG on my current roster. Has to be why he is demanding a scholarship.

David,
Franklin was recruited as a C A player I believe, In training camp he was a B A
and now he's an A A. It was something of a meteoric rise, but I knew that this
year the team wouldn't be that good so i red shirted him in the hopes I get the
full four years from him. I don't have a problem with him demanding a
scholarship, he's clearly very good and would get one next year anyway, that
didn't really bother me at all.
I don't think i'm going to give a scholarship to Davis. I'll be around a 17
prestige or so and if I can focus all my points on landing one stud recruit
hopefully he'll turn out better than Davis, who is a good player but he can't
score which is lacking in my big guys.
What I'm considering doing is moving R. Miller to PF and just running those 4
big guys (Hatter, R.Miller, B. Miller and Marino) out on the inside and using
Druff as a warm body if anyone gets into foul trouble. My team only has one
legitimate post scorer (B.Miller, though I hope that Hatter gains some scoring
in training camp) but tons out outside shooting with Carroll, Moore and
Jupiter, and those guys can just flat out shoot. I'm excited for next year
already, it's finally a team that I've assembled through recruiting and I love
it.

I would probably agree with you on Davis. You already have 4 freshman on
scholarship and putting a 5th in that class could cause some problems down the
road. After season 52 Louisville had 6 seniors graduate (along with an early
pro). I didn't want that to happen but I allowed it to over a couple of years
when I couldn't bare to see good players want to transfer after coming in as
strong walkons or day 2/3 recruits that really blossomed in camp.
