PLAYER A SG 24 7 9 6 3 5 9 4 16 100 6' 1"
PLAYER B SG 24 7 9 6 3 1 1 4 16 100 6' 1"

Who would you rather have playing shooting guard?

Player A will likely shoot a lot but will probably have the worst shooting
percentage on the team and won't draw fouls. Player B won't shoot at all, but
his percentage won't kill you.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if Sc-Sh is a bad thing to have at shooting
guard. Yesterday my two high scoring shooting guards shot a combined 4 for 29.
Last year my "star" shooting guard shot less than 35% and drew less than 100
fouls (less than 10% of his shots resulted in a foul being drawn).

And it's not just my team. Offensive-minded shooting guards struggle
league-wide. Their offense output is by far the worst of all positions.

I know a lot of people have complained about this before, but seriously it
needs to be fixed. It's the one aspect of the Bball sim that drives me nuts.

Why do you think this is? Because the SG-position shoots more than other
positions, all other things being equal? Isn't there a way around this by
shooting-inside, setting SGs to pass, etc.?

Jay that's basically what I've tried... overloading inside, setting everyone
else as a shooter but SG, and so on.

But the truth of the matter is, I really think it needs to be fixed. Search the
pro leagues for a SG that scores more than 10 PPg and shoots higher than 40%.
Look for one that draws fouls. You won't many, if any.

Where is DELs Kobe, Ginobli, Allen, Hamilton, Wade, Johnson, Roy, Ellis,
Barbosa, etc? All of them basically shot higher than 45%. They all get to the
line.

this needs to be fixed.

The part of this that I really don't like, that is counterintuitive, is that
the SG shoots even when you tell them not to. If that is hard-coded, then
presumably it shouldn't be. There is so much non-realistic flexibility (e.g.,
short-but-effective PFs) that it seems archaic to force the SG to shoot other
than as a default (say, if no shooters or key-players are specified).

It is almost as if the 'mold' for a DEL SG is a spot-up un-athletic jump
shooter (or heck, set shot shooter), and if you deviate from that mold at all,
you get a poor shooting percentage, high turnover rate, and no fouls drawn.

And even if you set your SG up not to drive, 1) he will still drive more than
you want, 2) it will not mesh with the rest of your team philosophy, and 3) the
utility is not that great.

Ther is no question that this aspect of the sim needs to be tweaked. We have
talked about it several times but to no avail. Now one thing Andy DID change on
the basketball sim is a change that I do not care for at all.....the defense.
What bought about that change was a lot of griping that some college sim
coaches did on a thread. Now instead of different defenses being measured
differently ie. 2-3 zone 100 % man to man 95% or whatever depending on the
talent of the team all defenses are the same! This makes no sense at all to
me. What is happening is that teams like Ryan's Clippers who used the 2-3 zone
very effectively are being penalized. Instead of being rewarded for having a
great 2-3 zone now any defense he plays is judged the same. The same senario
holds true for teams such as mine that play man. I just think it has caused
the game to take a step backwards. This change went into effect about two
thirds thru last pro season and you could just see the scores beging to climb.
Not I have no problem with high scoring games but I do have a problem with the
defensive aspect of the sim not being as strong as it used to be. Just my 2
cents worth..but you mark my word scores this season are going to sky rocket.
I am experimenting in the pre-season games and trying everything...and I can
see NO difference at all in any defense. That is NOT how the pro game is
played in the NBA

The last time I started a thread about this I ended up leaving the league and
my posts were deleted...so I will stay out of this thread other than to say the
SG field goal percentages have always been very unrealistic in this sim. You
can do a search through past threads that I started on this subject that point
out the glaring differences between the sim numbers and real life numbers.

Off the top of my head I believe there were 8-10 guards going to the foul line
over 750 times in real life. In the DEL sim I believe there was not a guard
that went to the foul line 250 times in a season.

-----

I was a little shocked that the defense change was made as well. It is hard to
believe a team can master every defense possible and run them all just as well.

Just curious as to why that change would be made over some of the glaring
weaknesses in the sim...my guess is it was a much easier fix than some of these
others that are pretty major.

There is the thread with a few stats when this was discussed a few years ago.

Well ... My CBEL KSU team is a lot better with this stud playing at SG.

S.McGarrity SG Jr 5 9 0 3 7 11 8 17 100 6' 3"

He is shooting about 34% from beyond the arc.

and this "C" rated guard on my BEL team is very nice and shooting 35.6 percent
from 3-land.

S.Heapy SG 29 1 6 9 4 2 10 7 23 100 5'10"

When McGarrity gets to BEL he might be even better. KSU is playing a brutal
schedule this season.

I am a believer in shooting guards with high shot scores.

28 NBA players are shooting over 40% from 3. There isn't a single player in
BEL shooting 40% from downtown.

Top 10 NBA:

Kapono 50.5
Jones 49.2
Gibson 47.6
Stojakovic 46.2
Calderon 46.1
Nash 46.0
Hamilton 46.0
Parker 45.6
Miller 43.4
Jones 43.4

Top 10 BEL:
 1 S.Alleyn Ind 39.9
 2 D.Gomez Por 39.7
 3 P.Galitz GS 39.5
 4 J.Holtz GS 39.0
 5 T.Good LAC 38.1
 6 B.Alegria LAC 36.9
 7 P.Cangas SA 36.6
 8 S.Heapy Det 35.6
 9 D.Madsen DAL 35.6
10 K.Mathew Hou 35.4

Heapy is having a great year shooting the 3 by DEL standards, but the point is,
that is a below average shooting percentage in real life.

You think Andy will say that it is because of the defensive focus of Dolphin
Sim players?
