Argh. Im looking for an offensive minded PG for by BEL Boston team, and saw
these guys on this weeks waivers.
446 R.Beeh PG 29 9 5 4 8 4 3 1 21 100 6 5 B B PG
131 K.Mathew SG 24r 8 4 6 4 2 9 2 19 100 6 4 C B PG
239 R.Kunnecke SF 23r 8 5 2 6 6 4 6 16 100 6 8 B B SF
398 W.Partington PG 28 7 6 2 6 2 3 1 20 100 6 5 C C PG
Recalling what someone said in another thread about "wasting money on $4-7
Million contracts", and recalling that I tend to make a lot of signings I later
regret, I started wondering if Im about to make a mistake or not. So, Im not
even going to beat around the bush . . . are any of these guys worth signing to
a guaranteed contract?
Oh and on the subject of bad signings:
407 A.Boris PG 28 7 10 6 4 2 4 7 24 100 5' 9" A A PG
I am stuck with this guy, signed him to a big money contract for 5 years, and
now he is not doing much of anything for my offense. What should I do with him?
Its pretty bad when, after many seasons you suddenly realise you have no idea
what you are doing . . .

Beeh is the best of the group. I wouldn't spend big money on him though.
That Boris contract is pretty brutal. He is about equal to the player Beeh is.
I would consider buying him out personally, but that is just my opinion.

Personally I don't think 4-7 million dollar players are a waste of money at
all. So long as you spend that money on the right guy.
Personally I think it boils down to the style you want to play. If you want to
play a relatively tiring style (i.e. lots of training, press, pace, etc) than
you're going to want a bench. In this case you can probably put together a nice
bench using 4-7 million dollar contracts.
PErsonally I like Beeh. I'd say some teams should definately try to sign him.

I agree with Jeff that the type of player you go after should be predicated on
the style of play you are playing. That's what I like about DEL. Very rarely
does my team play the same style season after season. There just is no right
or wrong way with the sim. I have used some pretty far out coaching orders at
times and been successful while other times the standard "safe" orders have
failed me.
I like Kunnecke a lot because I prefer players that can play different
positions. He could be a PG with good hands and intel, would be a good SF
because of his size and scoring potential. Could also play SG. A guy like him
would deserve a 4-7 mil contract. One thing I have learned the hard way over
many seasons is that Studs alone will not make a team. You have to have good
role players that can fill in the gaps.

One way to think about it is this...
if your starters play 30 minutes in DEL, that means your backups are playing 18
minutes. Now let's say you've got 70 million to spend.
Starters (Team A)
S1- 12 million
S2- 12 million
S3- 12 million
S4- 12 million
S5- 12 million
backups- 2 mil per player
Starters (Team B)
S1- 12 million
S2- 12 million
S3- 12 million
S4- 7 million
S5- 7 million
backups- 4 million per player
In this case, team A has five high-quality starters making 12 million each.
Team B has three high-quality 12 mil guys and two 7 mil guys starting. In this
case, if each starter averages 28 minutes per game you would have...
TEAM A
High quality starters (12 mil) minutes- 140 minutes
Low quality bench (2 mil guys) minutes- 100 minutes
TEAM B
High quality starters (12 mil) minutes- 84 minutes
Lower quality starters (7 mil) minutes- 56 minutes
High quality bench (4 mil) minutes- 100 minutes
In this example you are left with a choice... Would you go with 56 minutes more
of high quality starters or 100 minutes more of a higher quality bench?

He outbid me on Kunnecke. Nice pickup... though he paid him a fairly
significant chunk of cash.

I kind of hate it when a new coach swoops in, makes outlandish bids on the
stars who are out there, then bails after two or three seasons because his team
is saddled with huge contracts.
You see this in pro-baseball all the time.

I agree David. It is the biggest drawback in the pro sim for me.

Especially when you are obsessively trying to keep your team profitable . . .
Probably another argument for a hard salary cap, as opposed to the MLB-style,
pseudo-salary cap . . .

Personally I'm not in favor of a hard cap. I like the way basketball is set up
because $$ is tied to performance. This helps neutralize people tanking a
season just to get a lower pick, as doing so has a financial cost.
