Any news on this?

We're talking about something that's a pretty major change to what coaches have
to do (DL and non-DL batting orders and defensive assignments), so I'll admit
I'm dragging my feet on it. I'm still not sure that the average coach (as
opposed to the more active ones who frequent these forums) wants his managerial
workload almost doubled...

Just implement it in both the AL and NL. That way the missing double switch,
pinch hit for pitcher "stuff" is all taken care of.
Opponent of DH in reality, but it would fix a LOT of issues in the world of
DEL.
And, it makes the workload for new coaches way easier instead of doubling it.

I totally agree.
I think in DEL just having the dh in the American league wouldn't work as well.
When I supported the dh originally, I miss understood and asumed that both
leagues would be getting the dh.

I totally disagree.
I don't want to see it in the NL ... that's one reason I took an NL team when I
joined EPBL (I hadn't looked into it far enough to see if there was a DH in the
AL or not).

I'm waiting for it.

I say if we do it we do it right.
DH in AL not in NL
just like MLB.
The DH fued is one of the most heated in sports. 50/50. Lets not have that
debate.... lets just simulate.

It's common to have a pitcher come to the plate in an inning, then be removed
from the game before throwing another pitch. It affects coaches in both
leagues. I'd rather have this as a higher priority fix than the introduction
of the DH.

First - for once I agree with AJ. DH in the AL, no DH in the NL. Coaches will
be able then to pick up their league based on their preferences. Leagues will
get some identity just like in RL. The absence of the DH was the reason why I
chose the NL (it didn't occur to me that the most important real life
distinction between the two leagues wasn't implemented so I didn't take a
closer look).
As for doubling the workload. I am missing one simple piece that would make
my life a lot easier while setting up my orders. Just like I can copy my Early
coaching orders to Late/Tied by one click I would love to have the same
possibility to copy my "vs LHP" orders to "vs RHP" - both for the DEFENSE and
BATTING menus. That way I could set up my orders against lefties, copy them to
my settings versus righties in one single click, and then do my adjustments
instead of re-creating them from scratch.
If you add this Andy, and you add the same option for DH (a "copy my DH
settings to no-DH" button) then the increase in workload would be minimal. What
is painful right now is the need to re-create the orders from square one each
time.

The ONLY reason I'm suggesting both leagues is that it would fix the defensive
simulation problems that don't appear to be on the horizon as even potential
fixes. If the defensive and pinch hit problems are going to be fixed, then
I'm all for duplicating reality. Since this doesn't look like it's going to
get done, then I would greatly prefer a DH in both leagues.
Another option would be to use the DH only in the AL, but in interleague and
world series games the DH always gets used. Again, I really don't like this
option, but it's better than leaving the problems in and having to figure out
whether you're using a DH or not using it in a given game.

My only reqauest - would it be possible to post a date when this change will
come into effect?
I understand for various reasons we cant have the change occur for each league
in the offseason - but if we knew say the change would come into effect on
April 1, 2009 - then at least coaches could plan accordingly.

Andy, can we try the DH in EPBL, where its the league with most seasoned coach
and take it from there.
I mean everyone will get used to it eventually, so if its bound to happen, lets
do it now.

Perhaps making it an exclusive feature of the EPBL, and leaving it out of other
leagues.

I'm with Konrad. A "copy right to left" feature, like the desktop game has
(or, at least, used to have) would more than make up for the extra work of
setting up DH/no DH orders. If we could set our orders once, copy them to all
four variations of left/right DH/no DH, and then tweak as necessary, I think
that would be less work than the two sets of orders we do now are.

Yes, I do that too and I also change my roster order in the same manner (I
prefer to have pitchers at the top and it is a little faster to do it by
FORMATTED COMMANDS than by moving up the names one spot at a time by clicking)
but it still takes time and requires extra attention - it is easy to ruin your
orders by mistake (yes, I always backup them into Notepad before I start but
this is yet another step).
Not to mention that tweaking with FORMATTED COMMANDS is not for everybody.
A single button would be perfect - similar to the ones we have in football (you
can copy NORMAL to any other situational setting).

"a 'copy my DH settings to no-DH' button"
How about a "copy my no-DH settings to DH" button? In other words, must this
be something to inconvenience NL coaches?

I don't care which way it goes - copy vs LHP to RHP or the other way round.
Copy DH to non-DH or the other way round. As long one can set one's orders and
then copy them instead of starting from scratch or tweaking with FORMATTED
COMMANDS.

As we are at "copy" buttons: copy coaching settings from one minor level to the
others.
