Does catching ability affect how well pitchers do?

I doubt it, but I have never considered the possibility and have never tested.

I strongly suggest, however, that you bench Alonso and Denham in EPBL for the
next few weeks and replace them with your rookie league catchers to test the
hypothesis.

This sounds like a good idea. Please share your findings with the message
board community when your test is complete.

I don't think it does, either, but I think it helps to have a shut-down
catcher. I'd rather have a catcher who doesn't necessarily all that great but
only gives up a dozen steals per season over a catcher who hits 40+ homers yet
gives up 150+ steals. I feel like that puts the pitcher/defense in a bind.

I dug around the message board archives and found a message from Andy that said
that it did not effect it in any way.

Can we count on you to confirm those results?

There's no direct link between catcher ability and pitcher performance. But,
like any other fielder, the pitcher's ERA will be lower if he has better
fielders helping out.
