you want some silly analogy how it was really a triple and Terborg tripped
going down the line.
It's definately a small ballers game.

Remarkably, I saw this very play this weekend at the Carolina Mudcats game.
The baserunner was being held on 1st. The batter sent one down the line just
over the 1st basemans head, hit the line. The right fielder was charging hard
on the ball toward the line. The ball was curving fould and hit the corner of
the stands, deflected back in the field of play where the right fielder had
completely overran, trying to keep the ball from going into the corner in deep
right. The ball ended up in right center near the fence when all was said and
done. The only thing is instead of a single, the batter only ade it to second
where he stopped, completely lost as to where the ball was at this point.

The other key detail for me isn't that the runner scores, but that the batter
only ends up at first base. Now, they could be a slug; but since we've seen
Sp=1 runners score from first, that probably isn't it. It could be that the RF
charged the ball, made the play, threw to the cutoff, causing the batter to
hold up, then the cutoff threw home to try and get the baserunner -- but, of
course, the batter should then have gone to second on the throw. Maybe they
fell down rounding the bag? Or maybe they are an idiot and were busy watching
the play unfold instead of running to second; in which case the coach should
bench them for the following game ("1-day injury" for those of you keeping
score at home). I guess we'll never know what really happened.
