disputed this once before with Andy-
I don't like it a bit.
But CY Young in DEL looks at fielders ratings and run support.
So you can have a 20 game winner with a 1.50 ERA
and he can lose to a 10 game winner with a 3.00 ERA.

Strikeouts are also weighted too heavily, I think.

He was on a team that was tanking BIG-TIME. In my opinion, he was the best
pitcher in the league.... but played for a bad team that wasn't really being
kept up with. He should have been winning 20+ games per season.

This probably ties into the strikeout mention above, but a huge IP number is a
good thing for Cy Young.
Most Cy Youngs I've seen have pitched 230 innings or more. A guy who pitches
230 innings with very good numbers will beat a guy who pitches 190 innings with
fantastic numbers every day of the week.
Or such have been my observations.

I always thought that my guy should have won the Cy Young last season over the
eventual winner.

Det 27 989 178 57 66 194 252 15 6 0 2.04 0.247 Cy

Now don't get me wrong, both pitchers were deserving but in MLB, a 21-2 with a
1.84 ERA on the best team in the regular season would win over a 15-6 2.04 ERA
on a team that won the Central and would eventually win.

The DEL system tries to rank pitchers by the parts of their stats most under
their control. So, a guy who has a great ERA because of lots of strikeouts,
few HRs, and few walks will be ranked above another who has the same great ERA
because his defense turned all the batted balls into outs.
You're right that it's not all that realistic, but this is one place where the
real-life voting tendencies are so silly that I really don't want to try to
mimic them.

I don't think it's silly to have Wins and ERA matter when giving the award.
Cy Young had over 500 wins.... If Cy Young had been a great pitcher with a
.500 record he probably wouldn't have the award named after him.

Wins/losses are more about run support than pitching.
As for the "My guy"/"Winner" - the engine had it right. The winner pitched more
IP (252:210), had more SO (194:149), better SO/BB ratio (2.94:2.61).
Without more detailed data I can't be sure but it looks like the winner has
worse BABIP (which means "My guy" was more lucky), so the better ERA of "My
guy" was caused partially by better defense of his team. W/L difference was
caused by better run support. Is "My guy" more CY worthy because his team has
scored more runs? I don't think so.
IMO both pitchers were great but the actual winner was a tad better.

Oh, there was no doubt that my guy had better defense, I think last season we
were #1 or #2 in defense which would definitely help him out. If I recall, he
also missed 4-5 starts because of injuries which made his IP total lower than
the eventual winner.
