These guys are all crap, but they are the best I could get. When you are in the
toilet of CMEL (#275), nobody worth having wants to play for you.

Im looking for suggestions on how best to use these guys. Ive been using the
first four as starters, and games are close until the bullpen gets involved. If
I had a control for "Use starter for entire game", believe me, Id use it right
about now . .

Make sure you set "Hold Runners" to least. This makes it so your weak pitchers
can worry about pitching and not holding the runners on base. This will lead to
more steel attempts so hopefully your catcher can throw them out. I would keep
the aggressiveness on all of your pitchers set to less.
All i can think of.

Did you try for any junior/senior transfer students? I would think that some
of the C/D-rated guys might have visited if you offered them PT and
scholarship.

How long can Bilger throw, and how rested will he be for his next start?
Unless he is absolutely one of your best pitchers, I would look for one of the
Dr > 4 guys to take his spot. Especially if there are Dr > 4 underclassmen
whom you might have around next season (or might want to audition to decide
whether to keep them around for next season).

Also, take your next best non-starter(s) and make them your top long reliever
-- they will pitch a lot of innings and can hopefully hold the game for the
closer (who should be good, but maybe doesn't have to be your best pitcher
since they won't throw many innings). Be sure to fill out your long reliever
list in any case, as the ones lower down come in for blowouts (so that the top
1-2 guys dont' get used unless the game is close).

I am pretty sure holding runners won't effect your pitchers ability. The
downside relates to the fielder not being in his normal position if the ball is
hit his way.

Darren -

Holding Runners means your not pitching from the stretch, it should hurt your
pitching ability.

It does in real life a little.

Jay- I managed to get Worden this year with a ptp, and Corlett last year (that
wasnt such a great deal).

I would agree with you regarding the dr>4 guys; but you will notice they are
all 2-arm, 2-control types. How much good does it do me to have a good
reliever, when Im behind 10-2 when he gets in the game?

I tried Corlett as a starter last season, that was a disaster. The only place I
could use him without having things explode, was as a long reliever.

I would certainly put some of those other guys in the starting rotation if I
thought they could do anything other then give up 10 runs a start.

You pitch from the stretch regardless of whether you're holding runners. If
you pitched from the windup every time you didn't hold runners every runner
would steal every time. In fact, runners can steal home with the pitcher not
throwing from the stretch, and that's without a throw.

Holding runners just means the fielder is actually standing ON the base. Not
holding would mean the 1B is just playing near the base, but the pitcher is
still in the stretch.

Well I re-arranged my staff , and managed to beat a much higher ranked team in
St Louis . . . 10-8, and my bullpen almost blew a 10-4 lead in the 9th.

Can one of you clarify for me as I may have this backwards...

Please Explain Pitching aggressiveness...I thought More or Most meant less
walks and more hits....Less would be more walks as the pitcher is trying to
nibble at the plate. From Max's post I am not sure I have this correct.

Thanks!

Pretty much, High Agg is for high Ar and Low Agg is for high Con. If they are
about the same, I keep it normal.

It favors the hitting style too....

Hit and Run/Steal teams tend to do better against non-aggressive control
pitchers-

Interesting - This staff is terrible but I have agressiveness set to More and
the last team we played had 6/6 stealing with 6 or less speed guys. I realize
we are probably in the bottom 5 teams in the entire CMEL so this is probably
just reflecting our talent.

P.Kekipi P Sr 5 3 1 4 4 2 5 2 15 R R F D
B.Cooper P Jr 10 4 3 3 1 2 4 2 11 R R F F
C.Joiner P Jr 9 2 0 1 2 2 2 3 12 R R F F
F.Link P Fr 4 2 1 2 1 1 3 3 11 L L F F

I would welcome any advice on how to use the settings with this ugly of a
staff.

Instead of quick hook, use quick death.

As far as I know, pitching aggressiveness doesn't have anything to do with
stolen bases. Holding Runners will cut down on steals (or at least result in
more putouts), but primarily it's the catcher's arm that stops stealing.

Wow, a staff as bad as mine . . .
