I know, the AI manager is just as boneheaded for everybody else as it is for me
and you win as many on this kind of thing as you lose. But man, I can't wait
for the DH, just to avoid stuff like this:

Rivera on 3. Rendon on 2. Miller on 1. Two outs.
Batter: Heathman (0.000 BA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 0.000 OBA)
outfield shifted.
Takes, strike 1.
Takes Low, ball 1.
Swings and misses, strike 2.
Foul ball, strike 2.
Takes, strike 3.
Strikeout.
Cole has struck out 3 batters.

Seattle: 5, Texas: 5

Top of inning 7
Pitcher: Heathman (5.45 ERA, 0.264 BA, 0.352 OBA, 60 strikes, 32 balls)

Butterfras will pinch hit for Cole.

Serebrier (3.65 ERA, 0.247 BA, 0.309 OBA) comes in to pitch for Seattle.

I posted on that in the past week or two. In my opinion, when the pitcher
comes up, the sim should look at your "pinch hit for pitcher" option, the
"quick hook" for the next inning, AND the probability that your pitcher will be
fatigued in the next inning. It seems to only factor the former now.

When choosing between "World Peace" and "DH in DEL" I pick world peace, but the
margin is slimmer than you might imagine ...

David, that's why I'm advocating the DH for both the AL and the NL. I'm not a
fan of the DH in MLB, but there are enough shortcomings in the Manager sim that
the DH would solve that I would prefer it to the status quo.

I feel your pain and often experience it myself, but those making the decisions
have developed an immunity.

Another example ...

We're leading 5-1 in the bottom of the 8th.

Admittedly wild long reliever enters the game.

Walk
Walk
Single
Double - 2 RBI
Throwing Error - 1 RBI
Walk
Walk - RBI
Strikeout
Sac Fly - RBI
Walk

Pitcher pulled, I went on to win in 13 innings.

At what point, would you have removed this pitcher?

I know it would be a combination of fatigue with the other pitchers and the AI
perceived effectiveness of potential incoming players. It just seems like no
major league manager would ever have let him get to the fifth batter at the
latest.

Loren, do you have the RST of the other relievers available?

I think the guy would get the hook after loading the bases, and possibly after
back-to-back walks. With the walks, depending on the temperment of the
manager, as well as the counts for the hitters who walked - more leniency if
the LR is battling 3-2s and loses a hitter, less if they're 5-pitch walks.

Brian,
I didn't make note of the RST before the game, so am not sure how they were all
looking. I figure that is the reason that he stayed in so long and I can't
really think of an alternative other than some sort of 'momentum'
setting...which I think the 'quick hook' would do if it wasn't just for the
starting pitcher.
