I invited 20 pitchers. 18 of them were in-region, DC and FD types. The only two
that visited were the two non-region guys I invited with PTPs!!!
Those two would both be aces on my staff, but the fact of the matter is, I
highly doubt I'll get either.

Is this normal Tier 3 recruiting?

Red, as a comparison to another Tier III school, I figured since my team was so
bad I went for mostly FD players. I invited 27 pitchers (couple of DD's) and 9
stopped by campus. No problem with IF's and OF's though.

BTW, in CBEL there is a page which shows all of the recruits, who invited them,
prestige, scholarships offered, etc. Is there a similar page for CMEL? Thx.

The only reason I can see why so many pitchers didn't attend is that your
prestige is a '3'. You have some really good infielders and outfielders
visiting.

Did you offer playing time to any region pitchers? I think that is what
enticed your out-of-region prospects. I think you have a chance with
Brookhouse, but I'm not too sure about Frame.

Kyle- I assumed my prestige had something to do with the lack of pitchers
visiting. Conversely, the lack of decent pitchers on my roster definetly has
something to do with my low prestige.

I offered PTP to one in-region pitcher. Why? Because nobody else that I
invited, was looking for playing time. Ive been in CCEL and CBEL for quite a
while, and only once did I ever offer a PTP to a recruit who wasnt asking for
one. Am I missing something? Should I be offering PTP unsolicited?

*Parenthetically, that one recruit (in CBEL) took me up on my promise, and
proceeded to have a terrible camp. He ended up transferring after his freshman
year, because he was so bad that I could not fulfill my PTP without costing my
team wins. So, Im not gonna get bitten by that shark again, unless someone can
tell me I have a good chance of benefitting from it . . .

You all offered scholarships to everyone, right?

Red, if you're in tier 3, offer ptp and don't worry about it. If you can get
your wins, you'll be out in a year anyway. In baseball, it's easier to push
one bad player thru a ptp than the other sports from what I've seen.

My recruiting stats:

Invited 4 DD players, offered schollies and PT, 1 visited
Invited 13 DF players, offered schollies and no PT, 6 visited
Invited 10 DF players, no schollies nor PT, 2 visited

I'm ok with the results. As a coach of a tier III school looking to move up, I
would have offered more schollies and PT, but I may stay here at Lehigh for
awhile (my alma mater). So I offered less schollies to see if I could get some
pitchers w/o them.

Jay- yes.

Bill- if the player transfers for PT, and I leave for elsewhere, do I still get
hit with the penalty?

Thanks Coach Schwartz. That's it.

Red-yes. You'll have to find a way to make him happy. Play him but use pitch
hitters often, or put if a pitcher, put him in the bullpen as a middle or late
reliever to get his innings. If its a game matchup you think you can win with
hitting, start him. I had a guy this last season with a ptp that just didn't
fit well into my pitching lineup, and I kept him happy with 7 starts and 9
games total.

Well I didnt get either of them. Got a catcher, which I needed, and two
outfielders who are good enough to start if they dont drop in camp. But no
pitchers. Maybe we can set up a tee when the other team is up . . .

Red, there is still a lot of good pitchers for a team like yours. You have 6
scholies left, so you have one up on most teams looking. If you want I'll try
to send you some advice.

Didnt see this soon enough. I got a few visitors, there werent that many guys
left worth inviting. At least i know I will get SOME pitchers, even if they
arent much use.
