Anyone know why 11 pitchers are required in EPBL instead of 10 like in the
other baseball leagues? Having only 1 extra roster spot really compounds with
the salary limitations on 26+ year olds for added inflexibility.

Nope ... outfielders is equally a problem.
About half of the NL rosters carry 4 outfielders (in real life) these days.

That one at least makes a little more sense, but only since in MLB you can have
an IF play OF in a pinch, and you can mostly schedule when you sit your OFs.
In DEL it's random when your OFs get days off (injuries), plus only OFs can
play outfield and IFs infield. But you don't have to carry SIX (or four) in
EPBL and five in MEL - it's the same across the board.

It's weird and against what's written in the rules, but everybody in EPBL play
by the same rule, so I don't care.
What I'd like is to play IF in OF (and vice versa) of course with heavy
fielding penalty.

I don't know... my firstbasemen seem to get a lot of "throwing errors"..
any penalty on an IF, and I can't imagine how bad they would be.

Over the weekend, Detroit Tiger Brandon Inge became the first major leaguer to
play CF and C in the same game since something like 2001, when he himself last
did it. Certainly it is far more common for players to fill-in at other
positions for maybe 5-games per season when someone needs a day off (not due to
injury, probably not due to 'legal troubles'). Many players would have a
secondary position which they would not be 'horrible' at (i.e., they are simply
great athletes and/or they played there in high school, etc.), while others
would be a backup that could play many positions adequately but not
spectacularly if they worked at it. Most such players have to practice these
'new' positions in the minors or in spring training before they are adequate.
The drawback of course in the real-world is that supposedly Inge has asked to
be traded after starting last season when the Tigers found someone else for 3B
this spring. He's unhappy but still playing, as a team player would. Mostly
it is a mindset, and whether one practices at other positions. Playing
softball has taught me that.

I'd be willing to bet at 80% of all major leaguers played shortstop or 2nd base
at one time from high school up.

In majors the difference between the best fielding 1B and the worst one - is 1
win thru the season. Defense in baseball is overrated.
