for a long time it was Pogg a catcher for Washington..
Congratulations Konrad Ciborowski, you now have the most annoying player-
J.Romano C 29 3 10 2 9 3 8 1 1 20 R R 100 14 B B
despite a Steal setting of Less, and HR power on every batter, Romano's girlish
arm coaxes my ill advised runners into stealing..
Losing 2-0
Ashlock on 2. No outs
Ashlock attempts to steal third. Safe!
Ashlock on 3. Sanchez on 1. One out.
Batter: Pate (0.400 BA, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 0.531 OBA)
outfield shifted.
Swings and misses, strike 1.
Takes Low, ball 1.
Sanchez attempts to steal second. Thrown out by Romano
Ashlock is actually a 5, just a dumb time to steal with a 9 contact, 7 power
hitter up and losing 2-0.
Sanchez is only a 2 speed, and very stupid.
Ashlock went 1 of 2 today.
I understand the strategy.., the worst team will give up 65% or so stolen
bases...
You have to wonder though, how it pans out statistically.
For every two free bases, he gets a free out.

I actually had a 0 go 0 for 15 one season with the same settings
It's annoying.

The other thing you have to keep in mind, that doesn't show up directly in the
box score, is all the people who take extra bases because of taking long leads.
Read a Texas post-season PBP to watch how that plays out over the course a
series. It didn't hurt them as much last year, but their appearance before
that, then they only won one game against Detroit, it was really obvious, with
Tigers baserunners advancing on every ground out.
Not that I'm complaining -- the myth of the invincible 1 Ar catcher just makes
good catchers easier (and cheaper) to come by.

And the other other thing is, as far as I know, there's no real way to
differentiate in the PBP between a straight steal attempt and a busted hit &
run. You may have your steal settings cranked way down, but what are your H&R
settings?

My Hit and Run is Least right now.
It's a pure HR team.
So he does essentially coex them into running..
Like I said, I guess teams are about 66% succesful.
But whats better 2 free bases or a free out?

I think Andy (and I think i've read it from others, too) has said that 2-1 is
about the break even point. although, i guess it could be different for a team
of slap hitters vs a team of sluggers.
