Well some interesting thoughts here.

1) No one gave up a first round pick for a player.

2) People almost got to $200 million on his contract .. just wow.

3) Not a lot out there for the second round. Not nothing, but not a ton.

4) Cleveland -- Krupes won't resign for a minimum contract after this season.
Just telling you .. ditto Pertz.

I won 3 pennants never having to pay a pitcher over 10 mil. Not sure if thats
possible now, because I have one of the worst pitching staffs I've ever
had..... and I went as high as 12.5 for several guys....

on the other hand- "feel the power"
on the all HGH team

Nunez SS 31 4 7 3 4 10 10 1 1 22 L L C C

and the team wuss
Ambriz C 30 6 4 0 10 5 9 8 1 21 L L A A

going to have to up his dosage.

I can tell we will need to bring your guys in front of congress.

I was thinking 20x10 mill would get Alonso - I put in 20 at first and then
backed it off to 17x10. I already have one high salary player:

D.Bruno SS 28 6 6 4 10 7 5 7 2 23 R R

He was 11 contact last season. Funny thing is the best career hitter on my
team is cheapest. A lifetime .316 hitter

A.Dempsey IF 29 4 4 0 10 2 1 1 2 21 L L

He makes a flat 3.00 mill this season.

Sweet, my long lost blind brother.
Nunez SS 31 4 7 3 4 10 10 1 1 22 L L C C
You might need to put it on a tea but he can crush.
I'll enjoy watching that team play though.

On Rasmussen, he signed for this:
$10.88/4 years

Is that really a better deal than my offer?
$8.93/6 years

 5094 R.Rasmussen CF 32 2 7 6 9 2 6 3 1 22 L L A A

Even if he makes $5 million in years 5 and 6 after his 4 year deal expires, the
total value is still less than my offer.

That's always been one of the hardest things for me to figure out, how deals of
differing years are compared to each other.

Nunez SS 31 4 7 3 4 10 10 1 1 22 L L C C

He hits .225

I really don't think there is that much difference between 4 and 8 contact
sometimes.

Date: Sat Mar 1 11:13:51 2008
Sender: Aaron Burkey

I feel the same way Bruce.

3031 L.Krapes went to Cleveland for 8 million and a single year.

I offered 6.5 Million for 2 years. 13M > 8M, yet he took the smaller offer?

I was pretty certain I'd get him, and then the sim says, no, I prefer scenic
Cleveland, better school system.

Sender: Just Oz

Actually those guys make sense.

If they can get a better one year deal at their ages (around 20) then they
would expect to go up from there.

I'm wondering if Cleveland thought (as I did when I first joined epbl) that
after one year at this level, they could keep them at .04. It doesn't work
that way.

Date: Sat Mar 1 19:12:14 2008
Sender: Ryan Perdue

I offered about the same for rassmusen.
I can never figure out the year thing verses the price, it seems to very no
matter what age they are.

I warned you Bruce to bid high on CFs. :)

My almost all lefty/switch batting order versus righties, as of right now.

R.Rasmussen CF 32 2 7 6 9 2 6 3 1 22 L L A A
J.Romero SS 24 8 5 5 8 7 5 5 1 16 L L A A
D.Sandford 1B 30 10 10 0 10 4 1 6 1 20 L L A A
B.Perez 3B 28 0 4 0 10 6 4 8 1 20 R R B B
C.Hillman LF 27 3 3 5 10 4 4 3 1 19 S L A A
P.Granados 2B 27 10 4 4 10 1 8 1 1 18 S L A A

Was there a bug in the free agent signings? I always thought players accepted
the offer that represented the most money in total, but examples listed above
show that didn't happen.

Date: Sun Mar 2 09:14:59 2008
Sender: Tim Howe

Oz,

Just to let you know, Cleveland will be able to get the guy at .04 after this
season...He will just have to take the hit this season.

Sender: Johnny Gunn

"Was there a bug in the free agent signings?"

No, it's been like this for as long as I can remember. What Oz said makes
perfect sense, plus, I like a little randomness.

Date: Sun Mar 2 15:53:22 2008
Sender: Just Oz

Tim -- Hmmm.. that's not how I remember it. My recollection is that he won't
want to resign for less than he signed for this year.

Date: Mon Mar 3 09:54:13 2008
Sender: Michael Schoknecht

Oz, I agree with Tim. They will go back to .04 after this season.

Date: Mon Mar 3 11:30:59 2008
Sender: Just Oz

Okay, Mike.

Seems like my previous experience with minor leaguers was different, but I
guess we'll find out. I've got my own test case in Koval, a 24 year old
playing his final year of a two year contract I signed him to during last
year's waivers.

Oz

If the EBPL is like the other leagues, a player will automatically revert to a
$0.04 contract upon the expiration of an existing contract as long as he's 25
or younger.

Date: Mon Mar 3 11:58:37 2008
Sender: Just Oz

Brian -- I'm sure I'm wrong given the number of owners telling me that I am.
It's just this nagging feelings that I did it once that way and it didn't work
out for me.

It's fine with me especially since I've noted it and will look to "do a
Cleveland" next year.

Date: Mon Mar 3 16:09:03 2008
Sender: Just Oz

Just in case you're right, I went after a 23 and 24 year old in WW2 with a
higher than minimum bid as well...

Viva la free agents.

Date: Wed Mar 5 09:57:09 2008
Sender: Just Oz

I went back and found some people from last year and verified that I am wrong
and hence should have bid more on Krupes (not that I would have gotten him!)
