The template command is used to set your depth charts and team strategies. A sample template command is below, with descriptions of each line following. Note that any line beginning with # is ignored by the game.

To change the order the players are listed at on your roster, the comand is
order (fist player) (second player) ... (last player)
Every player on the team must be listed (even redshirted players).

Defensive selections are given with the commands
defr (position) (starter) (backup #1) (backup #2)
defl (position) (starter) (backup #1) (backup #2)

for vs. right- and left-handed pitchers, respectively. Note that there are only two mandatory catchers, so you would only have one backup for that position. All other positions must have two backups.

red (player #1) (player #2) ... (last player)
If you want no redshirted players, then just put the red command with no numbers following. Any players listed after this command will be redshirted and not used in the game. Note that while it is legal to list redshirts in the def lines, that is generally a very bad idea.

Batting orders are given with the commands
batr (batter #1) ... (batter #9)
batl (batter #1) ... (batter #9)

for use against right- and left-handed STARTING pitchers. If a reliever with the opposite throwing arm comes in, the batting order will of course remain the same. Batters are designated by positions, NOT the ID numbers of the starters. DH and P have the same meaning, so you can freely interchange the two.

Pinch hitter and defensive sub orders are given with the commands
phr (best hitter) ... (worst hitter)
phl (best hitter) ... (worst phitter)
dsub (best defender) ... (worst defender)

for use against right- and left-handed pitchers and for defensive substitutions. Not all players need to be listed; however if you wish a player to be brought off the bench for either use he must be listed.

Pitching lists are made by the command
pit (list #) (first pitcher) ... (last pitcher)
The list numbers are as follows:

  • 0: starters
  • 1: long relievers
  • 2: setup pitchers
  • 3: closers
  • 4: spot starters
There can be between 1 and 5 pitchers in each list. The starters pitch in a rotation, so all should see equal appearances. For the other positions, the top pitcher is the most likely to come in. Note that you must have a minimum of 3 starters (pro) or 2 starters (college). Mopup relievers are taken from the end of the long relever list.

The pitch count and next starter are set by
stpit (p.count) (next starter)
The pitch count option allows you to specify the most fatigue you want the starter to get before he is pulled. 1 disables this feature, 2 is for a 6-man rotation, 3 for a 5-man, 4 for a 4-man, and 5 for a 3-man. The next starter can be set to 0 (leave unchanged), or 1-5 for the first through fifth starters.

Coaching preferences are given by
sits (situation #) (PH player) (PH pitcher) (PH blowout) (sac bunt) (bunt hit) (steal) (aggr. running) (hit&run) (long) (setup) (closer) (int BB) (hold runner) (IF in) (OF shift) (aggr. pitch)
The situations are (1) innings 1-6, (2) late and behind, (3) late and tied, and (4) late and ahead. For all of the options, 1 means you do it little, 5 means a lot. Most of these are self-explanatory.

In the pro game, you can assign a captain and an assitant captain, with capt (captain) (assistant)
This is for show more than anything in baseball, as the captain has minimal impact on his team. A captain can only be assigned for a major league team.

Finally, the game training options are given by
train (batting) (defense) (pitching)
You may use up to three training points batting+defense, and up to three defense+pitching. The more training you use, the more fatigued your team will play.
